Should we have a Nationals type event up here in Queensland???????????????????

It could be held at Willowbank like the first years of the Jamboree.
I think Willowbank management would be much easier to deal with!

I'm sure some of you would remember those years when the V-Dubs ruled. Is there the numbers to support such a day?

What do you think?

Sounds good, the Jamboree 10 years ago was great.

Yeah the early years of the Jamboree were good....VW's winning the Top 8 Shootout, and a Kombi beating a Rotary much to the disgust of the crowd......:thumb

the only problem was the jamboree went to big and had to get professional. Just needs a club up to organize it. The VWDCQ where the original orgaizers of the jamboree, but alot of the sporting side has died down form the club. So which qld club is going to organize the event?

The only problem that I see is that the guys that have to travel a long way.
It would only be a 1 day event, but driving 10 hrs 1 way takes a fair slice out of one's weekend.
As far as the track hire is concerned, I'm not sure if all the long weekends are booked for large meets.

Is there a venue where we could see other forms of m/sport such as hillclimb and m/kana along with 1/8th or 1/4 mile drags.

That would keep e/one happy!

You'd need one of the larger clubs to take an overall ownership setting up such an event....or modifying an existing event to become larger. It wouldn't replace the Nationals, but it could certainly have it's own space on the calendar. It's all a matter of timing....finding the right time in the year when everyone is ready for the type of event you're wanting to plan.

what about if we arrange one of the open street meets to be a vw nite? eg jsut arrange for all those vw ppl that are interested to show up and race one night?

would be easier to organize than a large event?

Warwick has a 1/8 mile track and would be 1hour less to travel for those coming from down south....also big enough town to accomodate everyone.
Just don't do it in the heart of winter.

It would be wicked if we could get all the vw racers Street, drag, motorkana and a offroad challenge track. Now that would pull a crowd and i would be there to lend a hand to who ever for what ever lets do it
You only need two tools
Wd40 if it don't move and it should
Duct tape if it move's and it shouldn't

Some good idea's there Kafer69,Bix and Mud Bashing A/one!
I would like to see V-dubs doin what they were purposely built for in their designed environment! (off-road,hillclimb etc)

What do you southerners think?

What would you require to make a trip up?
Warwick wouldn't be a bad venue either!
They're really laid back and easy to get along with too!
Apparently.

How convienient that my parents own a property about 1/2 hour outside of Warwick. Would be a good base for the show, for me that is. No one else!

Maybe have a look at a vw calender of events and find a suitable weekend and do an expression of interest.

just a word of thought. don't want to sound like a wet blanket. but mabye start little and work your way up? i have seen whats involved in similar events and even with a regular task lists and ppl doing ti for years organzing a large event is ALOT of work. mabye try something like a car show at the drag strip in the arvo then drag racing at night? and build it year to year.......

just a thought.
