YOU HAVE JUST BEEN DAKED
don't worry it's a VW thing
rust! All the usual places, sills, pillars Check for repairs in the nose, you can get a good look from inside the boot.
Original verts would have had a Karmann folding convertible top which would be nearly impossible to replicate. Fakes would be dodgy vinyl roofs that fix on with buttons or something.

thanks jon

Originals also have a glass rear window that is hinged at the bottom and have a release catch in the centre of the top of the glass. You undo the catch and let the glass fold down so you can open the roof.

People who will rip you off
Lots of money 😉
I am sorry, I just couldn't resist. My friend has a 61 KG but it was restored already so not sure what problem areas to look out for....wish I could be of more help!
I know you want to have a good look inside the nose because once hit they are supposedly very hard to get straight again.
RUST and lots of money in your pocket.
ghias consist of 3 panels in the cross section of the body work..... this traps moisture whuch creats RUST
Make sure all the trinkets are there eg bumpers taillights, headlights seats,
stay away from a converted convertable
You see Dave knows...........oh hale Dave
