So how many people on here have a country buggy?
Is it on the road on?
Is it being restored?
Or just sitting in the shed for a rainy day.
This is how I found the one we restored.

Yes I have one and I have been working on it all day today!
This week, I am assembling the frnt spindles (reconditioned 5 years ago by Andrew Dodd - that's how long I have had it!) and brakes. All parts have been renewed (shows, cylinder, bearings,) or reco'ed (machined drums etc).
I'm off to buy brake lines (Beetle rubber front ones are too short) and inner bearing seals (the ones I bought are wrong) and gas shocks (probably Cofap - I have used them in the past and they are terrific) this week and I hope to refit my gearbox next week. Then I'll call Stan and get him to start work on my engine - a stock reco with just a little baby cam.
I bought mine from a bloke in Dural. It was just about f**ked when I bought it and in hindsight, I should have passed on it. I had to replace the lower 3 inches of the car all around, including the sills that my brother and I cut from another rust-free rolled car. I then had to modify things like the heater vents and seat belt mounts to make the donor sills 'correct'. Lots of money spent at the local sheet metal shop making new sections for th body and may days welding.
Mine is number 435 and I think it was manufactured in March 1969, judging by the date on the rear shockers. It has what appears to be a 'factory' half-hardtop (so it looks like a ute) and doors with vinyl and 'clears' on top. Ugly. I will replace with a standard style soft-top and I hope to use Bill Moore's car as a 'template' so I can re-make the top.

sweet !
they come in 3 colours, beige, beige or beige !
I got KO558 sitting in the garage, or at least the body of it.
Maybe not for much longer, I'm very quickly running out of room. So it may have to go.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

also Paprika Red and Army Green - but both are very rare!

I've never heard or seen any other colours......
excepting the pic of one of the 400 CKD Left hand drive models sold in the Phillipines...
It was white.... Maybe someone will have to import some from the phillipines.. 🙂🙂
The numbers made in Australia - Vary greatly in the books I have... approx 1956 - 2000 - or approx 695 ??
these figures are from memory...
Plus the 400 LHD CKD kits...
So, its seems a bit of guessing has gone on.....
Anyone know the real number???
Does the New VW Australasia Book have any figures for the country buggy???

BugBoy,
In one of the original photos , there are no holes in the rear for the exhausts....
Were they blocked off???
You have done a great job....
You now have a piece of Rare Australian VW History.....

Yeah, production figures vary. Punch "Country Buggy" into 'Google' etc and see what you come up with. Ther'es a few articles on the CB
Bill Moore in Sydney has done a wonderful job with a CB registry and tracking history of these stupid, cool cars

I'v got K098 which is not a pristine example of the type but lots of fun!
You have done a great job on the restoration. It seems absurd how much it costs to restore such a simple looking car! Only this weekend my wife asked .........and just how much did the buggy cost?
This was after she helped me push the Kombi (my next project, up the drive way to the shed in the back yard......you know, the shed that is taking up the space where we could have had a good size swimming pool!!!😠:thumb) Have to be on your guard all the time!!!
Yes Lee the rear panel was replace over the time and a beetle exhaust fitted.
As you can see this has been put back to correct specs.

I heard of another CB being found in the Hunter Valley recently... its still in High Grass at the moment...
but it looks like it will be restored in the future....
an driven....
no other details....
I spoke to the fellow at the Nationals with the country buggy
He knew a fair bit about them...
this is the second one He has had....
He used to be in the Aust Armed forces....
Is He on AVD??
He said the Australian Army had 300 CB for evaluation....
and they destroyed them all.... using them for target practice after they had wrecked them.....

As far as I know, from info researched by Bill Moore, there were seven CBs built (and painted green) for the army evaluation

Folks,
I have KO 103 not KO1056 as on Bill's register. It is modified, K&L front with typ 3 IRS, SSP box, low Albins 1st and 2nd with semi locker ZF, painted low IR signature ADF green and on road registered with engineer's cert. Wayne Horsfall did the work with a 3 inch body lift and internal bracing.
certified CB DV8
How about some pics puurri
K098 was originally green (found under 4 other layers of paint) and came from up Toowoomba way so could have been ex army.
