I am looking at putting my bug on some type of restricted rego.
I want to take it off the road so i can do some work on it, and in the mean time have another car to drive around in.
I can't keep it on normal rego as the cost of three full rego cars would kill me.
Is there any sort of rego that i would be able to go on that would allow me to drive it on club days and things of that sort.
I have a 1976 standard bug (Torsion bar front) and the only mods are drop spindles and kadron carbs. The car has been lowered at the rear also and has tinted windows.

If anyone has any info that could help me that would be great.

Lee.

Next year it will be elligible for historical rego.

You will get some clubs who say you have lowered it it isn't standard. Talk to the RAT, sorry RTA - they will tell you that modification is ok, it is up to individual clubs.

Good luck Lee, I've been trying for years. At the moment there's now way to get a modified vw on club rego unless you can con a hot rod club. Good luck.

That's only because of registering clubs ignorance of the rules or anal "restorer" mindset.

Put a nice big sticker on the back - "Saved from a restorer!"

Well theres your answer. Start your own club. Me and some friends were thinking of doing it. You have to have so many memebers and attend some local council meeting s or some crap and abide by the RTA rules. The difference so i am led to believe nowadays is if you are caught driving on club plates with out a valid reason you cope a fine not the club. Like wise if you have an accident and the registra doesn;t know you are driving your car or you don't have a valid reason like on a club run then you wear the costs. Apparently clubs used to get sued etc. Thats why some of them are so reluctant to take on the so called modified i think.
