Anyone know where I can buy perferated vinyl from in Melbourne. I have tried a few places but no luck. I need it to make my headliner.

Thanks, Nectar.

I wouldn't use perferated vinyl....
Its terrible stuff to use....

Velour is 10 times easier to use....

So I have found out....

I tried to buy a velour headliner a few years ago, but they only had the perferated vinyl..... so that what I have...

Velour Next time though....
Unless You really know what You are doing with Vinyl....

Best of Luck

Hey Nectar,

Try Garry Blackman in Richmond or his brothers, Peter or Chris at Blackmans Auto Trimmers in Moorabbin. They can have it perforated for you.

Why do you just buy a ready made Vinal liner to suit your car.

There available from Vintage in Sydney ..... Easy to fit as well. A lot cheaper than buying the material and getting it made and fitted .

Ive got a Velour headliner in my Orange car .... all i can say is VELOUR SUCKS.. never again.
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

Velour has a better look and feel to vinyl and is easier to work.

The perforated vinyl has one big advantage. Air travels up the a pillars under the headliner. If there is no where for the air to escape with velour you will get billowing.

We all know they are available at Vintage, They are also available from CIP1 and Wolfsburg West, But I want to MAKE it myself. I have done the seats and door trims, and I want the only thing in the interior not to be done by me is the carpet.

I have thought about it!:duh

I gotta do something on the car myself.....(racks and skirts will also be done by me, but thats a different story!)

Im in no rush, I just want to get the stuff and go forward.
I also dont like how the brand new ones are made/cut. on my original ones that I took out of the car (to use as a pattern!) the whole Quater window section is one peice, but the new ones are 2 peice, so there is another reason I want to do it myself, cause I reckon it looks a lot cleaner without having a seem on the door post, but having said that, It might be done to make it easier!

My type 3 square's headliner is actually black perf dots printed on vinyl. I was thinking you could go to a signwriter like Kruger Signs Adelaide (VW nut) who has a giant plotter and get him to setup the artwork for all the dots and get him to printup all the dots direct onto the plotter with all the cuts and positioning of stitching etc and the all you have to do is put it together. Pretty easy stuff if you have freehand or illustrator etc.
Good luck with it,

I believe the idea of the perforations is to allow the condensation that gathers under the roof from time to time, eg when the weather is cold, to escape/evaporate. The alternative is mould and rust. But you're right Turbo, later cars had solid vinyl with dots. Maybe cost cutting. Dunno.
