Just came up from masking up...

Should be able to put the first coat of primer on this afternoon...just a couple of marks to rub out after hitting with spray putty...

It's not perfect but wiil do the job...can't wait to see what it looks like black.

Thrn red wheels white walls and some flames (maybe).

It's like someone has jumped on the roof so if it shows up to bad black I will paint the turret gloss white...similar to the rat patrol beetle.

im sure it'll look sweet either way.

the matt black is pretty good 4 hiding dents and wobbles but, its the gloss one that shows em all up 😉

you are "roll masking arent you ? (not hard line-ing)

Whats the weather like up there, not good down here. You might have to nick the heater from the lounge room to get rid of the humidity, before ya lay the paint on.

I'm using masking tape on a roll and sticking it to the bits I don't want black...sorry don't know what you mean pyro.

It's overcast here rob but not raining. Shouldn't worry the primer to much anyhow. If I don't paint till tomorrow that won'r bother me...probably won't be done intime for work cause the LH guard needs stripping.
I'll paint it separately then bolt it on.

What else is doing I see Bruce the postinf terrorist is talking about ratting his oval or is just taking the piss ?

sorry should of explained and asked a few more questions.

did you strip the car right back to like the bare minimals (no interior ect, ect) if so ignor what im about to say 😉

roll masking is used so when you put the paint on to area's such as a door thats closed, the sill inside doesnt develop a hard edge (a.k.a hardline)

to roll mask (i find it a pain in the ass todo) about 1/4 of the tape needs to be folded back on to its self (the sticky part) and the stick the sticky part down so that the edge thats folded onits self is pointing towards the area being painted.

for eg. if you were putting it on the sill part of the door, the edge of folded back over tape would go so its just touchin or even just before, the edge of the sill where the door meets.

ill draw up a quick diagram to explain a lil better.

also this isnt a nessesity but saves you having to sand out any hard edges 🙂

yep...I know what your saying...but I didn't take any of the interior out this purely a semi quick job....just want it to be one colour...will do untill the day I can afford to get it professionally done...should be about time all the kids have been thru school...private school is bloody expensive let me tell ya.

I might post a couple of progress pics tonight...not that there's a lot to see.

ok the red is the folded over part and the yellow is the sticky part of the tape.

the black free hand line is ur sill and the purple line is indicating where the roll mask would go

the final pic is as if you were looking down at the sill and the edge at the bottomb of the creen is the side the door would close on.

i think this might help.....either that or confuse the hell out of us both. :duh

Sorry pyro, but the link didn't work.

all the lights and bumpers etc are off...so it was really the windows only.
and as it's gunna be black made sure i had a small bit of rubber showing.

I'll change all the rubbers when i get the interior done so i'm hoping all the rubbers have shrunk and the new ones will go over the existing paint line...fingers crossed.

I want a beetle i can rat and slam...if i cant get the right money for the oval, then i'll rat her...nothing that cant be returned to original...narrowed beam with adjusters, dropped spindles, lower the rear, wheels, etc...scuff the paint a little...

Should be sweet
What you think kafer? Im serious...

You mean I will no longer be looking for a white notch when I come to work???? But a black car just won't stand out in that carpark..... I mean, they are all range of colours in there, nothing as simple as black!!

Hows it going so far?

Might end up with a white roof yet penguin...roof has plenty of ripples in it...can see marks where it used to have a roof rack too....but hey it's only a daily driver.

We'll have to work on Rob...he was pretty keen on the lowered beetle with flash kit in the photo with the spliity....there might be hope yet.

Why is it that we're the only ones that can see that Bruce ?

Maybe we should talk Jen into it now she cleaned up at the Nats.
I'm sure Rob would think about it then.

Cool,

I have had the rust (well most of it) cut out and I am going to pick it up tomorrow morning and leave it at the mechanics.
