Hi, I am asking for advice on what would be the current asking price for a fully restored 72 beetle, new paint in origanal artic white with stripes, custom made cedar console. Chrome fittings on motor. Clean, no rust, rebuilt floor, registered, drives extreemly well, beautiful bug. Original owner, wanting to sell as it was my dad pride and joy.
:sandrine
got any pics
all i can say is it would prob fetch about $4000 in S.A without knowing about he motor specs and seeing a pic if it was awesome it would go for about $5500
thats just my opion though
pics and more detail on engine etc would be helpful - but $5-$6k may be a point it would hit:duh
Let me out, When I call my name
IGOR is ALIVE !!!! 😎
haha welcome dingolady, love the name!
everything dies baby, thats a fact..
maybe everything that dies one day comes back..
put your make up on and your hair up pretty..
and meet me tonight in Atlantic city..
Without seeing it or getting a mechanical check, in my opinion the bidding may have to start at around $2000
A fully retored bug of that year would be worth at least $10000 if it is done to a good standard.
Aha but it all depends on the opinion of good in the eye of the buyer or seller.
I suggest getting a RWC check and mechanical report done and written out by a VW experienced mechanic to help evaluate your starting price.
Hi, thanks all I will get pics, and all specs on the weekend. Also it was in at the vw mechanic's in Rocky recently. So all work on it has been done by them. Dad loved it, he always joked that he would be buried in it! So mum is only willing to part with it to a true fanatic, so she knows it would be looked after.
Cheers.
Hi, I have only recently bought my bug but at the time when I was looking a few months back, to get a car in original condition AND one owner you will actually fetch quite a price. Like someone said previously around $10000 if everything is done professionally and you have original paperwork. I would have loved to hav bought a bug that was a one owner with it's history but saw they were selling for the $5000 without really being touched. They had just been looked after really well by there one owner.......that's what I think anyway.
If Someone is out there looking for a Beetle in really good condition, and has plenty of money then $10,000 is a good figure...
The car would have to be in as New condition to attain that amount of money....
If it has been Modified at all, the money will go down....
especially with non VW parts....
AS someone else mentioned - its all in the Eye of the beholder...
as I have seen beetles in terrible condition IMHO and the Owner thinks its lovely.....
If You have receipts for everything done to it would also be a great help in assessing the price....
but it all boils down to Someone wanting to spend that amount of money for an old car....
Probably $5000 would be more realistic, especially if You want it going to someone who will appreciate it....
Best of Luck

10,000 is a ridiculous price unless its a show winner. you can get much much more for much less in beetles.
if its in good condition, i would say 4-5k... 6k if its great. any more than that and it had better be the epitomy of perfection
I bought a one owner 1970 beetle in 2003 for $175.
Fair enough I had to do a lot of work to get it to the standard it is now.One owner does not always have to mean big price.
It is if it has NEVER EVER had any paintwork done and there are NO DENTS and the motor is in A1 condition still original to factory numbers and the interior has never been restored and is still like new that it rates up there as a $10,000 type of car
If its like a new car but still done a lot of miles.....
its still an old car.... but in good condition....
It is still in the eye of the beholder.... You see many good VWs on ebay for $3,000 - or less... etc....
If it has been regulary serviced and has log books... great,,
If it hasn't had regular servicing and hasn';t done a lot of miles and is in good condition..... another story.... IMHO
For the Big money - it has to be perfect....
My Beetle - was in good shape Mechanically, being owned by a VW trained Mechanic's wife.... 69,000 miles... One Owner..
but i still have spent over $5000 on the car since I bought it for $1800.... I wanted everything mechanical to be NEW...
Engine overhauled etc.... I even replaced the shatter type windscreen to a [Legal} Laminated type... replaced the interior - all brake hoses etc... ball joints & tie rod ends....
Now all these were in good condition - but still made in 1968.... Now I should be able to drive My Beetle for many many miles..... without any problems....
[those parts are only the tip of the iceburg- Alternator & all electricals are new including the wiring & New H4 headlamps & tail lamps-- doghouse oil cooler- NOS 1976 deck lid- 1970 NOS rear guards - 1968 NOS rear mud flaps]
