Arf - Good one Jim!

I've been told to make a really good resume, and send it in anyway (ie. even if you don't have all the selection criteria). Evidently, it's often a way of reducing the amount of crap resumes to wade through.

Just paint yourself as the bees knees, get that interview, and dazzle them with your general brilliance. If you're the one, they'll go that extra bit for some professional development.

All the best!

P.S. If the job is a brain surgeon, and all you've done is a Macca's course on burger flipping, it may be better to reassess your capabilities and possibilties.

Important to address the selection criteria in the cover letter.

The sole purpose of a resume is to get an interview. All the crap you put on it is fine, but if they don't like it or buy it, then you won't hear back from them and it is all over. So gear your resume to be relevant; so much so that it is targetted for the position, even to the point where you only include relevant work history.. stuff from the same or similar industries.. and then put them under a heading of something like "Relevant Work History".

Other hints.
- Don't ramble
- Don't include your birthdate or age. Ageism is the new sexism. In that basket is also religion, marital status, family, blood type, etc. Not needed, and they are legally not allowed to ask.

- Only use experiences from the last 10 years. If it was before that, it is probably irrelevant or forgotten.

Getting back to the subject of the initial question..
Key Selection Criteria.
Read through the advert twice, and make sure it is a good fit.
Highlight what the requirements are, and whether they are essential or desirable.
*These are the needs of the employer. Cut through that other crap and wrapping paper.. This is what they want. Now address it in your cover letter, and how exactly you meet those needs. Eg. Employer need - Reliable. Client statement - "I can prove my reliability as in my previous employment for 5 years, I was absent for less than 2 days." or something like that.. It maybe true that you have never had a day off.. But will people believe it? Are you better to say less than two days, or even 5 days? They are all true! Bakup what you say with proof. Sort of like a debate.. It adds weight to your arguement.

Hope this helps, there is plenty more.. But you are probably sick of listening to this crap by now.. 🙂

Yep it's for an A02 admin job.

Ok the question I am having so much difficulty with ...

3. Demonstrated knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Education Queensland administrative policies, practices and procedures used in schools, including School Management System (SMS) and SMS Finance.

I have no knowledge of this SMS program so I'm aiming at the angle of being able to rapidly acquire knowledge, I completed a gov traineeship a few years ago as a systems librarian, and in other admin jobs I've had i've always had a strong I.T presence in my duties....so i'm trying to go with this but I just don't know how to answer the question from this direction.

Bah could also be that i've been working on this since 3am this morning and I'm having a bad case of writers block .. but i just can't string a damn sentence together 😠

Things like that mention that you are a fast learner, mentioning maybe experiences reflecting your speed of learning, the fact that you welcome any training or on the job training that may be offered, and if all else fails say how you love being a team player, and working towards a common goal, however you are also able to work independently and welcome those challenges.

Some crap like that.. 🙂

rice girl,

go find out what it is...then state soemthing liek the following:

Whilst I am nto fully fimilar with the produres and practices used I am able to demonstrate my ability to quickly aquire and adapt to the new systems...

In my current employment (or as part of my current traiing) I am often given new tasks etc with time frames in which to complete them. On one occassion I was asked to do (then example) which meant I had to learn this new system (name it) I learnt system, completed task, and met deadline.

I know if I apply this same attitude and determination in your department, I would quickly learn the systems u are using with very little training necessary.

I always came top of field in all my applications for government jobs...one had over 900 applications

simple technique is ...work out what they want...work out how it applies it to ur skillbase, and make sure u give an example that can be backed up....

and let current supervisor know ur applying for other job..and it helps to give current super a copyof application so when they are called as referree, they know what u put down as ur examples...sometimes ur supervisor may also have a betetr example u can use.

I have been aps 1 rite up to aps 6 in ato. so been both pleb and supervisor....if u need help..u can u2u if u want...

also in goverment libraries...little known book called 'apply for job using selection criteria' has examples of 'click phrases' how t apply for the job, what to say etc...discovered only after i went to aps6 and a pleb bought it in (was new then, so wouldn't not have helped me...) but has been around for about 7 years i think...most dept have it, and govern. libraries too.

also, try to keep ur application simple...in this case, more is more, and not likely to be read rite thru.
dubless. 🥲
