I am looking at getting a set of front inertia seatbelts fitted to my buggy next week, got a rough quote today. The buggy has a roll bar already installed so they would need to weld plates to the base, apparently bolt the top ends to the bar, and weld new restraint brackets to the tunnel as the old holes are gone.

They have quoted me for a straight-forward job, with no problems with the roll bar. If it needs altering the price will go up.

The quote for the supply of the belts (2) is $300, plus the labour / welding at $66 an hour for apparently about 6 hours, total of $396, bringing the total bill to about $700, with no problems arising.

I thought this was a bit steep, can anyone enlighten me on past experience?

One thing I have to watch, the engineer who is going to tick off my certificate says that seatbelts are one thing that has to be done by professionals and not backyarders (can understand that), but I really didn't budget on this price.

Advice?

you only need to conform to as/nz 1554 part one for the welding of seat belts mounts or mods to steel work or fab of any car or truck >motor bike

Any trade guy can do this

6 hours sounds to long to me , try to make it easy for the guy remove carpet scrape the paint off the area , just think about what he / she need to do to get the job done ( fast )

2x Lap/sash belts and a lap belt in the back of a HD Holden only cost me $450 total, but I don't think there was any welding involved from memory (she's long gone now).

Yeah $700 sounds a bit steep.
Me fail English? That's unpossible!

mmm

Belts are $85 ea - REPCO Retail ( Happy to send them to you if you want to save the $130)

Install he would need to remove seats, sleeve roll cage, drill tunnel, insert plates, add floor mounts, bolt in belts etc. I would quote on 3 hrs for the job myself so as long as nothing went wrong so it would cost you $390 plus $165 compliancing.

I think his quote is a littel steep but he has seen the buggy and is in a better posn to quote, there maybe more to the job then you have noticed such as seats that will not come out. The other thing I find is that people see Custom Cars and see $$$$ signs.
