I didn't get it. Someone else did.
By the way it WAS a split beetle.
Note the dash.
do you know who has it?
I would be keen to buy the doors off it.

Then again it might have been a zwitter, this is what they called a few ovals that had the split dash.
Cheers
Dave
I need sections out of it if anyone knows who's got it.
Thanks

C'mon kids gather round,
there's a new sensation hitting town,
It's moving straight, low to the ground,
it'll pick you up when your feeling down.
hey dave you mean a split with an oval dash ,built between oct 52 and march 53..cheers dsk member
KdfKing was the guy who got it.
Seriously gents, this would have been the mother of all resto jobs. If cutting it has saved a couple of early ovals, or even better a split then I'd have to say (though I hate saying it) that its probably a good end result......
Knew it was one or the other,
Its only a beetle after all.

yep, not like it was a splitty kombi eh dave 🙂
It had been cut to put a big rear window in at any rate too...
yes i did chop it and it would have costed about 50k to restore to show quality.the whlole frame was squashed and yes it was a split beetle.anyone that saw the extent of damage that was done to this car would have done exactly the same thing.hell,if you really want a splitty that bad in this condition look on ebay.de and youll get one for 500euros with a hell of a better starting base then this pile of crap was.you can get complete(and i mean with the riged semaphores and split taillights and bumpers)from europe 4 around the 3-3.5 k euros about 5-6 grand au$$$?????so whats all this bull crap about????im on to a guy at the moment that has a split beetle in the former east german side near berlin but it looks like its after 49 so if i dont want it put your money where your mouth is and ill post it on the forum and give everyone here a shot.thanks doug....by the way if you were going to do this splitty up as a splitty drag car you would be spending big $$$ just on the rear cut alone.and if you were after this car to make an original resto you would have spent atleast 6-7 grand to get it complete and thats with a pan, engine gearbox and everything else that isnt original....a total unoriginal piece of crap in my oipinion..sorry if i have offended anyone but this bug was worth FA....and 4 anyone thats going to say that they would have restored it then thier either full of sh*t or dont know to much about vws and the prices of parts.but the next piece of crap splitty for under a grand or cheaper in this condition ill offer it to bill and id like to see him put his money where his mouth is...and shipping will just cost about 1300au from europe or probably less from the states.

forgot to mentiion that the shell would have needed a doner split window beetle shell to get it on its way to be restored????????now does that make any sence or am i the only person getting this??????😉
There are splits in museums and a number on the road.
Even if it was restorable don't feel bad about cutting it.
i actually feel good about cutting it as i know 4 a fact that i helped 2 splittys get restored in europe.and yes the car WAS in australia but that doesnt make it any more expensive then any other splitty.as said im on to a guy that has a splitty...dad recons its a 49-52 model in a shed....totally unmolested and original????so in europe rare split bugs and splittys are still being pulled out of barns everywhere...you will see very shortly how much shit is left in europe as ill be posting photos of projects and finds on this site as i go.i actually thought that the internet would make certain people a little more knowledable about vws and prices or rarety around vws in general in the world these days.
no offence intended on anyone but australia is a very small percentage of the world wide vw community....but im happy that its slowly starting to deserve the recognition that it deserves....especially our very rare right hand drive splittys(kombis) that were untill a few years ago not appreciated in my opinion.peace andreas:kiss
For what its worth you made the right decision.
It is true that as time progresses we are restoring beetles that 5 years ago we would have not even considered.
The same is happening with the mighty mini cooper S,
with a local guru restoring one that was at the bottom of a creek bed for years (A dry creek bed).
One split beetle cut to save 2 is a good call if you ask me. 😉
1958 Beetle, 1966 VW Beetle, 1996 Holden Statesman!
Its an obsesion for engines and fuel.... 😏
Ill second that. I would rather see two others on the road than this sitting in the paddock rotting away to nothing and then being of no use at all.

your car your choice mate. 🙂 that car has sat in the weather open for the taking for decades, and the post has been up for what, 6 months? and no-one collected it. So who are these lazy people to say you have done wrong when you were the only one to make the effort to retrieve it at all!
If it aint broke,
Make it go faster!!
Andreas.
It was yours so you do what ever you want.
No one knew the condition and as you said, to get it restored would have been stupid, it was just a plie of crap.
Good call.
Cheers
Dave
