Update

The Gladstone branch of the Leukaemia Foundation and the Queensland Ambulance service are doing a fundraising walk to Brisbane. 7 walkers from Gladstone are walking to Brisbane to help raise funds for an accomodation village for us country folk to stay in while a family member is receiving treatment in the city. The walkers were originally walking down the coast road but only last week the police have come back to us saying it is too dangerous and gave us an alternative to walk down the inland route. Get your maps out and check it out.
Gladstone,Biloela,Monto,Eidsvold,Mundubbera,Gayndah,Goomeri,Nanango,Yarraman,Kilcoy,Caboolture then finally Brisbane......14 days later. The total Kms is 710 but 176 are not walkable due to other safety concerns but this still leaves a healthy 534 kms !!!!!! The walkers plan to cover around 40 ks a day for the entire 14 days.
If you are out and about and see the walkers give em a toot and a wave of encouragement. I will around somewhere (on my days off) driving one of the support vehicles.
Its disapointing not being able to walk the coast road but the safety issues are far more important I suppose. Look for media coverage mainly in Qld but hopefully we will make news in other states.
Will post the web address when it is available.

Hey Vern
i tracel from Maryborough to Gunalda 3 times a week on the Hwy and you are wise to NOT use it.
The traffic has more than trebled in my opinion in 3 yrs.
So you wont stop here, pity .
All the best and wear a brite vest as its gettin colder and you will be encroaching Antarctica

The cold is gunna be a bit of a worry to us from up here where it doesn't really get cold at all. I have about 5 overnighters during the walk so I will be packing my thermal undies !

Didn't do all that well as far as FREE acomm. went but got some really good deals from the motels and hotels. Lions and Rotary clubs have come on board and are doing meals for the walkers which is fantastic. We have a web site nearly up and running so I will post it when its all working.
Have got some really great sponsors behind us supplying clothes, shoes camel packs ,sox, sports drinks and all sorts of stuff. These businesses cop a hammering from lots of organisations looking for freebies all the time so we have been really lucky.
Walk starts on the 8th May from here and will take 2 weeks. I am support crew so when I am not at work I will be somewhere on the road to Brissie. Should be a fantastic experience.

Will keep you all posted
Cheers
Vern
