This really chuffs me off, because

1. I absolutely adore splitties and want to see as many on the road as possible
2. I love most of the people that drive any VW

I have just had a fella visit me, one of our splitty brotheren, who bought a round mirror from a dealer for $100, it broke. I sell a better quality mirror for $48, wheres the logic. The exact same thing happened to me before I strated this business, only the mirror cost me $137.
I suppose its the same old story thats been covered a thousand times, but if people get shafted they will not keep and improve thier VW, simple and therefore the livlyhood that is relied on is no longer there.

Dont take this as a back hand just commenting

Sites like AC.net and CB i find great. You can dial in and see what prices there are.

personally i hate ringing shops up and saying "how much for a 32mm vent for a set of webers??..........uh huh.....$25.....thanks...click"

It just wastes peoples time.

I will ask here.....and then some one tells me....." give Fred a call" :duh

I understand there must be input to keep it up to date but, i reckon it would win in the long run. Especially if the majority of sales come from a virtual store.

Anyway.... my 2c

Yes online shops are great
even a basic site that just lists the products, has a pic and a price, and you email to order (instead of the website order forms)

hmmm... without knowing the specifics of the dealer they bought the mirror off i probably cant say much, but lets put it this way...

people are in business to make money.

maybe it cost the dealer more then you think to buy, maybe they are making a big margain, either way though, the onus is on the consumer to not be ripped off and do their shopping...

without knowing the specifics, i wouldnt say the dealership has done anything unfair. hell i bought a $110 second hand dizzy for a mazda today and sold it for $350 to a workshop customer beacause i knew i could. a new one cost $1200, and my job is to make my parts section money... as much as i want to be the nice guy and give everyone a break, my job and business revolves around profit... unfortunately that is the way the world spins this day in age...

anyway, as i was saying... whilst it is sad to see people ripped off they have to take responsibility for testing the market also....
everything dies baby, thats a fact..
maybe everything that dies one day comes back..
put your make up on and your hair up pretty..
and meet me tonight in Atlantic city..

I must agree you do get a few but I just love talking. You want to see my phone bill.

I must have a concience, because when I know we can't compete on a certain product I tell them to call Classic or Vintage Vee Dub, if I am honest with people I hope they will return for something else.
The reverse has also happened from both of those shops as well.

Back to the mirror.
A member of our club camr out on the run on Sunday with his split, he was showing me his mirror, the same thing has happened to his.
Its one of the aluminium ones with the socket in the middle. And irt has come loose.
The only way to fix it is by breaking the glass, fixing the rivet and buying some round mirror to replace the one you broke to get at the rivit.

Or you can just buy a proper one from A. Schofield in England, they have the best repo's in stainless steel.

Cheers
Dave
