Hey,
I thought seeing today as anzac day we could create a post
for those who wish to pay there respects to those who fought at war for our freedom. Please feel free to write a little something.

They risked life for us,
They lost their mates for us,
They won us our freedom.

For the Fallen

They shall not grow old,
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget

Was at the dawn service in Gallipoli in 2001 - centenary of federation.

One of the most moving experiences of my life.

My Grand father was a P.O.W. in Japan when they dropped the nuclear bomb,
he has passed away in 2000 but I will never forget the things I have learned, about the hell he endured in an attempt to keep Australia the way we love it.
I think its fair to say....
Never forget the reasons men and women end up dieing in wars.
{whether it was right or wrong} these people made the ultimate sacrafice and risked and often lost their lives fighting for what they believed in. They endured a horrible part of humanity.
We can learn from our history and become better citizens of Earth, lets hope we can spare future generations this bloodshed.

When I see the non thinking masses follow the same mistakes into battle for reasons that they truly dont understand, I am sadened, as it shows that they have forgotten or ignored all that was to be learn't.

I cannot express in words how much I appreciate the efforts made to endure the hardships of Wartime by my Grandfathers and all those who have sacraficed their joy of life in the hope that people like me can live a life void of such terrible times.

The least I can do remember and Learn.

I went to the Dawn Service here in Melbourne ...my second son Aaron and his girlfriend Em were at ANZAC Cove.... I ran down when my dad's old unit the 7th DIV marches by to clap his mates that are still haning on...dad was in Tobruk and then on into the Pacific...he was away the entire WWII except for 1 leave break home....I cared for Roy Longmore one of our old original Gallipoly vets...he died at 107 years of age.....so today held a lot of feelings and memories....I don't support war but I deeply respect the men and women who see it as their duty to serve...

...and I so feel for the Viet Vets who had to endure a lot of stigma over that war...and most of them didn't chooose to be there.....it is so good they are getting the recognition they deserve and hopefully are getting the care they also need due to chemicals they encountered...it was the first of the new wars where war codes of ethics went out the door in some instances...a lot to deal with if you have a moral conscience

None of us who have never served understand what it must be like...no woman who hasn't had a husband go away to these wars and then has them return after their experiences understands

My pop was in borneo in ww11 and he was one of the 5 or so men who caught and disabled the jap tank at the canberra war memorial and all the men that did it engraved there name into the side of it i went and seen his name when i was on year 7 camp a very proud moment, The worst part was to walk into the big yard with both walls floor to roof with names of the fallen and all the old blokes standing next to the mates name crying went the last post was played
i was really moved by that.

Lest we forget !!!!!

Mum and Dad and Danny saw the passing out parade at Puckapunyal
It was a long march from cadets
The sixth battalion was the next to tour and it was me who drew the card
We did Canungra and Shoalwater before we left

And Townsville lined the footpaths as we marched down to the quay
This clipping from the paper shows us young and strong and clean
And there's me in me slouch hat with me SLR and greens
God help me - I was only nineteen

From Vung Tau riding Chinooks to the dust at Nui Dat
I'd been in and out of choppers now for months
And we made our tents a home, V.B. and pinups on the lockers
And an Asian orange sunset through the scrub

And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And night time's just a jungle dark and a barking M.16?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me - I was only nineteen

A four week operation, when each step can mean your last one on two legs
It was a war within yourself
But you wouldn't let your mates down 'til they had you dusted off
So you closed your eyes and thought about somethin' else

And then someone yelled out "Contact", and the bloke behind me swore
We hooked in there for hours, then a God almighty roar
And Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon
God help me - he was goin' home in June

And I can still see Frankie, drinkin' tinnies in the Grand Hotel
On a thirty-six hour rec. leave in Vung Tau
And I can still hear Frankie, lying screaming in the jungle
'Til the morphine came and killed the bloody row

And the Anzac legends didn't mention mud and blood and tears
And the stories that my father told me never seemed quite real.
I caught some pieces in my back that I didn't even feel
God help me, I was only nineteen.

And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And why the Channel Seven chopper chills me to my feet?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me, I was only nineteen.

A song by Redgum.

Says it all really.

It is an excellent song. I am far from a John Williamson fan, believe me, but he did a version a few years ago that was magic..

Marched twice today,
Dawn service and normal 10:30 service in town.
Always proud to march in the parades and proud to wear my uniform.

Hey Barls,
In the 10:30 parade, the score was 3-nil.
We were all disapointed that the puss all took a knee, We were told that if we went down there had better be some claret to show :duh

The song is called "A walk in the light green"

They played that in the hallway of my platoon before we march out Kapooka, it always sends a shiver down my spine and gives me goose bumps.

Oh and it is a far better song then Chisels Kai Sahn.

Have decided to fly to Syndey next year (if I am still in) and marching with my old unit!!

Glad to see that all of us are still here another year 😀
Cheers boys (and girls if we have any in uniform with us)

It just wouldn't be Anzac day in the city if there were not a Navy, RAAF and Army member laying in a gutter somewhere discussing vw's.
