G'Day!

Going to move to the states in a month due to work committments and will be selling my bug before i leave. Hoping to keep the dream alive and purchase a beetle or Kombi during my stay in the states. has anyone got any tips, websites, good stories, bad stories about the USA market?

Any tips would be great!

im an expate yank, where are you moving to? there are heaps of very reasonable vws, many clubs/etc that you could get in touch with, you might be surprised if you just do a search for vw clubs in the area you are moving to.

www.thesamba.com is a good start for classifieds, but local newspapers classifieds are also good. There is a newspaper in the west coast (similar to the tradingpost) called Recycler (I think there is a website aas well www.recycler.com) Damn, think of all the reasonable priced items and all the yards you will find with heaps of partiong out dubs. And then, you have Mexico down the road for new factory parts on beetles.

Hey jstbuggn where you off to in the states?
there are good places to get your cars from and bad (just like here) mainly due to the dry air and the salt/chems on the roads in winter. So even if you get yourself a nice one, after a winter shut up in a garage you may need to do some work to get it back to what you want.
I am applying for a slot over there in Colorado (may not get it but what the hel...) and would love to get a VW to bring back (a two year + position) but would want to learn about winter storage before I did it 🙂

Actually i am also heading to Colorado...Denver in fact. Be working during the week and hitting the mountains on the weekends. I can give you a 'heads up' on the local market!

I didn't think of the salt on the roads during snow...that could be a big problem...not to mention the slippery conditions..could be a bit of fun!

Thanks for the website 'octa" i will check them out.....

thats cool,
thought you may have been going to where I used to visit and talk to in Colorado with the Air Force. I am hoping for an exchange position there.
Take a quick look on samba and places, but get used to driving on the wrong side of the road 😀
