Only 2 sleeps to go and its all on !
I fly down to Brissie in the morning (taking oldest daughter as a surprise for her) to pick up Britz camper. Come straight home to pack it in preparation for Sunday morning "ready , set , GO !
Having a mothers day brekkie at a local sports club ....have sold around 450 tickets way beyond our expectations. Then the walkers and me set of for a 40 k walk. Takes them half way to Biloela (can't walk the entire distance due to safety concerns) Sleep over in Bilo then on to Monto the next day. I leave them for a couple of days so i can return to work...I am backwards and forwards to them for the whole 2 weeks should be a great experience. Web site that should be updated daily is
www.walkofhope.regionalqueensland.com
If you see us .....toot and wave I am sure the walkers will appreciate it.
We have had a fantastic response from the country folk on the way down really helping out with accom. and meals.
I will post some piccies as the walkers get into it.
Cheers

I will take special notice on the way to them on Thursday and report back
Hi People
I am back from my second stint at being a support person for the walkers.
The poor buggers are doing it tough .......they have decided it is a much more difficult walk than they first thought. BIG BIG blisters and more blisters. Sore muscles , sore feet , basically sore everythings. They are fatigued and at times cranky. We as support people are doing our best to keep the spirits up. The support from the small country towns has been just fantastic. Got a beautiful meal on Thursday night at the Mundabbera Council Chambers cooked by some of the councillors wives. The food gave me enuf energy to face doing the walkers washing............that was no easy task. I had some help and we finished washing drying and folding by 12.00 midnight !!! I left them yesterday having lunch around 20 ks outside Mundabbera at a very pretty, clean and tidy rest area. Had the pleasure of talking to some skool kids in the little town just out of Mundubbera. They have a little boy there around 8- 12 that had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. The other support driver is a survivor of the disease and spent a long time chatting to the little battler. Very touching and there wasn't a dry eye amongst any of us as we left......Thats what this is all about and there was not a complaint about blisters or muscles for quite a while.
If you see them on the side of the road toot them.
I am back down to them on Tuesday morning catching them at Nanango.
Cheers
Peter
....yes I remember a young 15 year old girl I nursed when I was in my second year of nurse training and on night duty...she died of Leukemia...She was the most beautiful girl and so strong ...everyone loved her....it was hard to see her suffer...I went on on night and she was dead...I had to lay her out, she was like an angel... I can see her face when ever I think of her....she touched us all
At least these days there is more chance of survival...but it's a long haul of treatment
Here's a very cool pic of the walkers at the Binjour Plateau State School a small town in-between Mundubbera and Gayndah
Thanks for posting the pic for me Jenz
There is one walker missing she was away talking to a teacher.
The people in the pic are doing "Thats Gold" from the footy show !
...I was going to ask what they are doing...thought it was Paper, Scissor, Rock there for a while 😀
Its all over !!!!! 14 days of blood sweat tears and heaps of blisters. The 7 walkers made it to Brisbane by 4.15 saturday arvo to be greeted by a crowd of family and friends.
The 2 weeks was not without some ups and downs for all involved. The walkers did the Leukaemia Foundation proud. The hospitality from the country towns was just fantastic and really helped the walkers along their way. So far we have raised around $65,000.00 which is fantastic. Out of that has to come our expenses. Our goal of 100,000.00 is achievable by may take longer than we thought.
All and all an experience that I will never forget and was proud to be a part of.
Well done mate, congrats
Thanks
Not sure if I would put my hand up in a hurry again to be a support person.... the walkers were sometimes quite unreasonable. To be understood to a certain extent
hey peter vern looks good in your signature, congrates on completing it
