i purchased a 60gb ipod photo on ebay from what i thought was an australian seller

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5774820232&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

everything on that page would lead you to think it was an australian seller, right?

so here is where it gets interesting.
i send the seller an email requesting bank details... and the email is sent to the seller, who is regsitered in austria!! so i get an email back from the seller, from ebay austria, and the seller gives me their bank details for a deposit (they give me their details in perfect english) now, heres something else weird...

the bank they want me to deposit to, is in CANADA!!!

Hello,
Payment Must be recieved within 2 days or your order will be cancelled and Ebay will be notified
send payment by bank wire transfer to:
(Benificiary name: Torontoseeker)
(Bank Name: Royal Bank Of Canada)
(Bank address: 33 City Center drive
Mississauga, Ontario
L5B 2N5
Canada)
(Transit Number:03132)
(Account Number:1061209)
(Bank Code:003)
(SWIFT: ROYCCAT2)
There is no BSB Number. The information I have provided is all you need to send the payment. after you send payment contact me via email and let me know so I can watch for your payment. After payment is recieved your items will be shipped within 2-3 days

now, im not stupid on ebay and i have gotten some good deals in the past few years, from both overseas and local sellers, but this just seems too weird.
if they were selling from overseas, i would not have bid.
if they were offering to pay the postage for me, i would not have bid.

everything on the auction site points to this being a genuine auction, but its just the email i received from the seller makes me feel ill at ease.
i have emailed the seller with this...

hi back2bunting...

i just need to clarify some things first... put my mind at ease.
are you selling this ipod in australia?? the auction site led me to believe this.
im just feeling a little uncertain, as your ebay id is registered in austria and you are wanting me to deposit into a canadian bank account.
its just making me feel uneasy, as i thought this was an ipod being sold in australia.

could be a stupid question, but its better to be safe than sorry.

thanks
Eileen

do you think im being scammed?

btw, if you check out the seller's feedback the last 6 items they bought were all from the USA... hmm

not to mention they only joined ebay TODAY and the last 6 items they bought were less than $2 each.
sounds very dodgy

I would assume it was from Australia going by the add...even ships from Aust. I would wait for his/her reply and report if it was not satisfactory. The add to me reads that it is from Aust for Aust. however their is no location for direct deposit or anything to indicate what country the deposit would be made to. Very strange. If you can get out of it I would.....

im giving the seller a day to email me back. they sent me a payment details email within 15 minutes of auction end, im sure they can send me another email within answering my questions within a day!

im now guessing its a scam, big time... sure didnt look like one from the actual page!

so how do i get out of paying for this? i have basically bought this thing and i 1)dont feel like parting with $477 only to get ripped off and 2)dont want negative feedback!!
i know ive got buyer protection to $375, but that still leaves me $100 out of pocket.

i have emailed ebay customer service asking what they think of this, can they pull auctions that are deemed to be scams? (hence i dont have to pay and i dont get negative feedback?)

star bug...def on the scam...

check items under the feedback...bottom one hasnt even finished yet...there is still 2 days remaining in auction, and top one was purchased today...this morning surprise surprise.

also, why wont they offer the postage insurance??? because u mite relaise that they never sent item when you dont get a postage number...

what u can do it state to them that they have three days to offer u full address details for where items is being posted from, as well as a number that u can contact them on...

that you would also like them to explain the anomalies u see.....and if they fail to offer reasonable excuse, that u will be forced to withdraw from sale.

they may have a legitimate reason, but i doubt it...

u need to ask before u assume...

but to me...its a scam...

oh, and the out card is....u can both agree to have item withdrawn from sale, without it affecting either parties credit...good for u...good for them...and since u reported it anyway, they will be investigated still...

hope it helps..

They contravened the legal agreement before you (if you pull out) which makes the auction void.

Just report it and sit back for a couple of days.

Report it ASAP, because they are breaking the ebay rules......
I would not send any money , as they are clearly out to rip you off..

what the latest thing to do on ebay is to buy some stuff real cheap so you get some good Feedback then sell heaps before you get a negative one...

You can tell by the con job telling you it's all Australian

...ebay has such a huge following....they'd pull it fast so that they don't loose their reputation I'm guessing....I'd imagine they are big enough to employ people 24/7 to get things done fast

...but because there is so much on there it takes someone like you to pick up something dodgy...I wonder how many scams get through?? Many/any do you think??
