Hi Guys.... i ahave a Golf Mk2 1990 GTI 8v that has a noisy lifter on first start up which goes away as the engine warms up....any easy solution?..... cheap please.

Also can somebody tell me if any of the later mod Golf motors will bolt straight in and also if the later mod gear boxes will also bolt straight in........ and the same question for Audi motors and gearboxes.

Thanks

UMM i have the same motor in my Mk1. 8v 1988 GTi motor. mine also makes a bit of a rattle when cold. I think it is just the lifters and similar buidling up oil pressure.

Not sure about later parts (eg mk3 and 4).

i run a close ratio 4 speed and also a 5 speed from some kind of rover i think which will bolt straight in.

I think and this is a BIG think later stuff may go in, and re audi vs VW, i THINK it will swap right over in most cases.

some one to ask may be Guy from harding european. he mainly deals in later model stuff now.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I have had several Mk 2 Gti's over the years, they have all have noisy tappets on initial start up.

I agree, its just the oil pressure building and the oil traveling round the engine. I wouldnt worry about it to much. As long as it goes away fairly quickly...... 45 secs a worst on a cold day
