havent posted for a while...
My 72 microbus (1800 type 4) is stuck in reverse. One of the bolts that holds the front end of the gearbox up has snapped off so its kinda dangleing. Ive tried drilling into it to get a bolt extraction tool in there but its just too tough. Anyway she changes gears happily when i jack up the front end of the gearbox, but i have to take it up higher than It would normaly sit if that bolt was in there. Not sure weather the bolt comming out has caused all this, or if something else has gone wrong that has also caused the bolt to break. I've tried useing heavy duty straps to lift up the trans, just as a temporary measure so I can get her to the shop. Really dont want to pay for a tow truck if i dont have too. But I cant get it up high enough.
Also when I jack up the trans, it seems to change gears well for a few minuets, but then after a while ends up either only going into 1st and second, or only 3rd and 4th, or stuck in reverse again. Mostly its stuck in reverse tho.
Anyone know whats happened? Any advice? If you have an idea whats wrong, whats it going to cost me? I dont want to get her towed to a mechanic if I don't have enough money to pay the mechanic yet....
Cheers in advance!!
