Daughter is at Kelvin Grove and rang me in the middle of the storm......she has a tin roof and I could hardly hear her. After the storm she rang me back laughing.............someone was trying to drive down the street, but was slipping and sliding all over the place. She took photos and says it looks like it snowed.

it was a good storm but had to try and drive a 48 seater bus thru the city with dickheads parking under overhangs and bridges blocking the entire road. used the old air horns and deafend a few people but finally made it to the transit centre. it was like driving in a foot of snow at times. very thick and slippery

Well what a day yesterday was it did not shape up too well for me, you know those days you just should not have gotten out of bed!
It all start wrong, woke up late so in a mad rush to get to work, I had to drive Esmay (our fastie) in so I was not too late (I normally take the pushy).
Over lunch I had to go out to run a few errands. Silly me left the lights so a dead battery in an auto I couldn’t even jump start. I luckily managed to get some jumper leads and another car to start off. Finally did my running around and got back to work ~2 ½ hrs after leaving!
In the arvo I had also planned to meet some one on Brissy south side (I work north side). As you all know now not a good time to be out on the road in Brissy. As I got close to the city I could see proceeding was pointless, rang the guy and called it off, but being not far from the missus work in the city decided to pick her up and get home before the storm hit. Well got as far as Roma St. and the traffic was blocked solid, all you could do was sit and wait for the hail to come. Sure enough ~5min later it hit.
I tell you it’s a frustrating feeling sitting in still traffic waiting for the hail to come. Poor Esmay got pummelled. Creeping along icy roads, even light throttle just spun the wheels, it was scary, and friggin noisy! After what seemed like hours in the hail (maybe 4-5min) I made it to the missus work and managed to get under cover before the size of the hail increased to golf ball size.
We went out and watched the hail for a while; everything was white, just like snow. The road was covered 2-300mm deep in places, amazing stuff when your not trapped in traffic swearing at everyone in front of you to get out the f#$&ing way.
We waited it out until we thought it was safe and went to leave. Put the key in the door and SNAP. You know that sinking feeling you get when what else can go wrong, well it did! Key broke off in the lock, muttered all the relevant swear words, cursed about all the times I said I must get a spare cut but didn’t. On the bright side, I did leave the windows open a little and with some scrounged wire managed to get in, at least we could get our wallets/house keys etc.
Stupid me then spent 20 min getting the ignition wires out and hot wiring with some scrounged bits of electrical wire, went to drive off the “click” went the steering lock…. more muttered swear words. I had a quick look to see if I could get the lock off and soon admitted defeat.
So we decided to catch the train out to Toombul (near home) try our luck getting the Mr Minit guy to cut a key from the broken bits. A HUGE thanks to the man there, he said he will do his best and didn’t even charge us, he said see if it works first.
Feeling a little brighter and a nice ice-cream to fill the tummy we caught a cab home to get Andy and head back into the city. On the trip in, ~8:30 by now, over two hours after the storm passed and there was still thick ice over the road near Roma St. We get back to Esmay carefully try the key. A little tight but it worked fine in the door, and yep in the ignition also. Cheers of joy from the missus, I think as much that it worked than the fact I finally stopped swearing.
A few minutes to put back all the wires I had pulled out and Esmay was drivable again.
So that was my day! One I hope not to repeat in a hurry!
Again, a BIG thanks to Mr Minit at Toombul who did a great job give the mangled bits ha had to work with. I’ll be going back to pay the man and have a few spares cut!!

Oh, as for the damage to Esmay, nothing quickly visible, but I’m too scared to have a close look. If there are any dints they are only tiny, amazing given how hard the hail was hitting and the layer of ice on her when I finally got under cover.

I managed to avoid the hail, just I think. I left the city on my motorbike thinking it was just a storm. Then heard hail was coming on the radio and thought hail on a motorbike can't be a good thing. So I did everything short of running red lights to beat it, which I did.

here's some pics from friends.
