Howdy all,
Firstly just want to say i don't want to spend a lot of money, still getting the car itself fixed up these are just things for me to play with while its off the road.

Just wanting 2 little things really:

1. is the shock absorber bumper mounts the ones where if someone hits u they will move the bumper back instead of smashing the bumper.

2. Is an engine stand off kit (i have a 68 if that makes a difference)
just reply here to u2u me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Marc,
The shock absorber mounts are probably all together different on those late Beetles....
The shock absorber went thru the guards too.....
instead of having a slot for the bumper bracket, those beetles [in the USA] had a "D" shaped hole in the guards.
Those shock absorbers are expensive plus they only work once... ie.. they get pushed in, they stay pushed in! they don't pop back out....
I was talking to a late model Karmann Cabriolet Owner at the Nationals last year, and someone had bumped his bumper while He was parked.... and He was looking to buy a new bumper shock absorber...... they were made to absorb a 5 or 10 MPH crash.... I always thought they would have just used a gas pressurised shock absorber.... and it would bounce back!!!! They didn't use those shocks anywhere else, only in North America.....
I don't believe they would just bolt on to Your model Beetle, as the standard bumper mounts on 1303S look totally different....

If YOu are still using the original engine lid without any vents,
You engine will over heat in Very High temperatures.....
ie.. around 38-40C....
Either replace the lid with a late one, as I have done, or just use the stand offs....
The do drop the temperature considerably....
When using the stanoffs, the lid actually catches the air flowing across the roof..... I love em...
I have a set but haven't used them yet..... Maybe next summer...
The engine lid standoffs were only $20 last year from Mick Motors in Brisbane.... Mick does mail orders too...

cheers

A long time back now but i remember seeing shock absorber bumpers the guy said he used to drive into the wall at 30km and they would just bounce off. (some guy in QLD cant remember much more info about him)

I might chuck mick motors an email, as the shops down here in Adelaide one is really helpful but don't have any and the other is the rudest person i have ever met e.g i rung up and asked about a SVDA distributor he said yeah i can get them but your not going to buy it I'm like OK whats the price and hes like you think your going to buy this because i gotta go onto the computer to find the price, i just said fine no business for you (this is the third time they have been like this grrr rude)

glen torrens (VWCOOL on the forum) makes and sells them

they are around $100 but they are removable, which also makes the engine lid removable.

better than the alternative and well worth the money

do a search on 'hoodjax'

they are better than any others that i have seen

The Hood Jacks are better - they have 2 pins that can be pulled out and the engine lid comes off.....

The other way of doing it is just replace the engine hinge pins with VW dipsticks..... cut to length....

Pull them out and the lid comes off....
