Like the sign says, I'm after a set of Falcon EA rear discs handbrake cables for beetle. I know about Auto Cables in Melb and I think Volksbahn in Syd can do, but any hints or other advice appreciated...

Consolidated Wire in Milperra.
They made up 2 clutch cables for the Spyder for $50. Very cheap and quick!
Spyder-WISD 07-09-05 11.6s @ 125 MPH

Speedster-WISD Nats 05 14.4s @ 89 MPH

Jet cruiser-Coogee 22-09-05 900 deg C @ 110,000 rpm

Weaseling out of things is what separates us from the animals....................Except the Weasel.

Just take a small notch out of the steel loop on the ford caliper & the vw cable hooks straight on, 5 minute job.

Dave Alex and Jak, thanks! I spent the afternoon mucking around and yep! I managed to make it work with the stock cable... but there was more to it than just a simple 'drop on'. I will update and explain in my other 'Big Brakes' thread...

Hmmm... I found the length of 'swing' of the handbrake lever on the rear calliper didn't match the stroke of the cable. There was 20mm change in length of the handbrake cable between handbrake 'off' and 'on' and the calliper required closer to 30mm, so I had to alter the piviot point. There was too much 'free' cable which required around 25mm worth of spacers to compensate for, too...

I used brand new handbrake cables, are your old ones stretched a little?

Possibly.. they are about 5 years old and worked okay with the old Type 3 drums. I have new cables sitting in my garage but I wanted to use old ones in case I had to 'butcher' anything. Stretch could explain the extra 'free length' and the need to use spacers, but not my need to change the pivot points... I have a feeling later-model cars (Supers etc) had a handbrake that has more movement... ie can lift higher and therefore pull the cables further. My Super's handbrake seems to go higher than my '68 pan/Oval...
