has anyone apart from me experienced thier top ball joint on the drivers side front wheel of their bay kombi letting go at 70 k's down a hill around a bend! it is a sick feeling. and a sik sight when u get out and have look.
picture the dolorian off back to the future when it folds it's wheels up at right angle when it flyes.

yeah just kept it under control and skided for about 10 m. getting fixed today.

Happened to me twice in the beetle only doing about forty kph at the time though. Makes a very loud noise .

You may be lucky not to have crashed into anything, but for the balljoint to get like that it has been worn BADLY for a very long time.....perhaps a better maintenance schedule needs to be looked at.

not ball joint, but had wheel fall off :duh lol
oh and this one time, I was heading home with my friend, (had changed tie rod end thingy's that morning) heard a ping thought,,mmm a rock....
was on straight bit of road then rounded a corner and slowed down for a roundabout (lucky).. anyhow ended up loosing my steering.. drove over roundabout and ended up parked on the footpath. The nut had come off the drivers tierod end (mmdoh that was not a rcok we heard.. guess who furgot the split pin :duh)... anyhow scrounged around car, couldnt find one.. luckily neighbour saw me and gave us a lift home.. when i came back with new nut two guys in a red baja had stopped and were looking over my baja... they thought it was for sale 😀😀😀 pmsl

i had a wheel bearing go on my old bug while taking the girlfriend(now wife) out for a spin so she could understand my deep deep deep love affair with my baby.
We had gone bakc to the uk so she could meet the family etc etc etc and i could tie up soem loose ends. She wanted to see the sights and all so i thinks ahhh perfect time to introduce her to the bug. no dramas for the first couple fo hundred miles but on the way home doing roughly a 100pmh a front wheel bearing gave no warning and blew out totaly, resulting on the drivers side fronts wheel tearing the guard to shreads and my jocks getting a coating of a rather smell substance!!!!!!!!! needless to say she really couldnt understnd the love affair with that car but hey she still married me :thumb:thumb
didnt take a pic of the damage should have really but u can see it was very close to the tyres so when it went the guard had no chance, be lucky to fit a tally ho inbetween the tyre and guard lip.😀
glad u made it to a stand still safely with little damage to your kombi.........
