Twice yesterday, while driving my splitty, I had people bowing at me, you know the 'we are not worthy' bow??
One guy walking across at traffic lights, stopped and was bowing with his hands flapping up and down.
Then a Kombi coming towards me, the driver got his passenger to hold the wheel while he leant out the window and started bowing.
I was laughing for hours, for years its been the peace sign now bowing??? If the guy who did it is reading this, you legend.
I tell you what, it made me reconsider selling, what else on the road can get that reaction.
Whats been your most memorable 'kombi thing'?
A couple of weeks ago I was coming home from a day at the beach (Glenelg) and I stopped at a set of traffic lights and a new BMW soft top pulled up next to me and they went mad , waving and pointing at my bus, they were in there 50's and had some young kids in the back and they were also shouting out "cool bus"
Made my day that someone liked my bus.
Cheers
Dave
Man I took my Westy for a run down the coast on the weekend, and yesterday on the way home all I got was some tosser "P" plater cutting me off, after overtaking up the inside lane that merge a bit sooned than he thought. Dick!

i dont blame the guys doing the "we`re not worthy" thing to you Roy, the bus is sweet.......i`m suprised at how much attention mine is getting now that i`m on the road.......just wish is was women instead of old men.
haha
thanks for the photo the other day, it does look sweet
Well done mate
Fleur and I still play it.
We have a barred road near a VW workshop as it was getting out of control.
Still it is good when the other is not paying attention and you know of a punch buggy around the next corner that may or may not be there.

they race me too, and i lose!
I get waves from dubbers but also from drivers in other cars - usually elderly people who know how old my car really is.
some people these days just don't know... I sent a pic of my car to a friend in HK, he thinks it's a 1990
speeding is bad!

lol i wave and get waves from other people in vw's all the time......but i think its funniest when im not in my kombi and i wave to another vw person :duh then i just feel plain silly :P

i wave and in turn recieve waves from kombi and beetles alike, but recently have been snobbed... possibly because my beetle is so dirty, or that im often not wearing pants
I've been getting snobbed alot lately too..... I think its got to do with where I am driving my beetle (I dont have a kombi 🙁 ), an industrial area mainly, everyone is so concentrated on work maybe ?
I once handbrake turned my first beetle into a car park at uni (a la Blues Brothers) and that got me the we're not worthy bows from a couple of other students....... 🙂
has anyone experienced giving a friend a lift & getting the
waves hence the passenger asks if i know that person, no
then another wave & another question & another no & so on.
happened about a year ago from mullaway to coffs, passed
5 kombi,s got five waves & five questions & five no's.
the friend was impressed, mentioned the charger thing yrs ago

yeah, had that happen...another fun one is taking someone in the bus that`s never been in one, into a low carpark......they duck!....... i giggle.
i always just think its funny when people look at me weird for taking shortcuts in my baja that no one would normally over islands in carparks to get that park u know wont be there by the time u drive around and so forth. and i get that "do you know that person" thing all the time. people dont get it. i get alot of older guys compliment me on the car. most of the young guys except for a few of my offroader freinds think my cars a bit sissy........their girlfreinds disagree😎

yeh i used to go in one at chermside (bris) had chains
which i would hit but never found anything else that was
as low in there, plus roma st railways was a bit dicy too
but chermside was fun ppl would look when i drive in
expecting me to get stuck but never happened😀😀
Talk about getting stuck, not in a kombi but my LWB mid roof transit van. Had it loaded with stuff and delived it to the Gold Coast to a new hi rise. The sign said 2.3 mtrs clearance and I need about 2.20. I took it real easy going in and just made it under the roller door (did I mention the drive way was steep at the door entrance then went level). Any way unloaded the van which was chockers but it now was a bit taller than when it came in! It wouldn't fit under the damn door!
hehehhee i always tell new passengers when goin into the under ground carparks "just look out the window at the roof and tell me if we're going to fit" its quiet funny as most people lean out the window and look or even sit on the window edge and check it out as we go in :P

Hey Winerot,
i bought my first Kombi on the weekend at Sawtell, and live just near Mullaway at Safety Beach.
Only found this web site last week too.
Hehe I enjoy a good wave, some very friendly people around here in Melbourne.
Oh highlight would probably a young couple who looked like they just got home from a rave or something, started dancing and whirling shit, was quite funny.
I also find kids seem to react quite strangely to the bus, seems to send them into some sort of fit..
comeing down the west cost last year i ran into some crazed kombi drivers
one was just about out off the drivers side window waving his hands around and had the peace sine
Heheh yeah the first time i went under a low carpark in my kombi i was scared.. i ducked too heheheeh it was pretty funny!!
Now ive got my beetle i have been getting alittle bit snobbed by beetle drivers.. but i always want to wave to kombi drivers but they dont think they will wave back..
Another kombi friend told me that she saw my old kombi the other day and she waved at him but he didnt wave back... i was abit disappointed cause i told him he has to wave!!!

i got pulled over this arvo for a breathaliser.....and the cop wanted to look at my car!! chatted for about 10 mins, think of all the drunk drivers that got away in that time?
haha good one Matt
I got pulled over the other day for a licence check, turned out the copper had a '66.
Had a chat then off.
mop021 will catch you around no doubt if you need anything
im at the mullaway shop, enjoy the kombi enjoy the trips.
matt, roy the same thing for me too when mine was resprayed
i was pulled over just so the cop could have a look.
