Never smoked on any kind of regular basis before and dont intend to. It's a gross habit. Wonder why so few of us smoke regularly?

why is it, when i worked in a super market over 40% of the workers smoked, yet working in an engineering firm, only 3 of the 120 ppl in my office smoke?

have other people found similar differences between different workplaces and occupations?
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I've noticed that too Bix, I used to work in a chemist- most of the chics there smoked even tho they are handing out medication to people dying of lung cancer etc........ now I work at a sugar mill in the open air and hardly anyone smokes:o

For a lot of people I think its more for show initally than from an addiction?

I dunno, but this survey definitely confirms my suspicions. When you go to the next show, have a look around and see how many smokers there are. Not many. Thinking about club VW meetings, I can only think of 2 people who are smokers in clubvw.(not that I know a vast number of the members)

you would be scared how many people in the medical profession smoke.
doctors, nurses, students... its weird!

im surrounded by the effects that smoking has on the body every day, specimens come in from people with all sorts of nasty cancers and maladies, many of them from smoking.
and you know what? at least HALF the people that work there smoke.
in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

We have 450 employees and only 50 would be smokers
Its interesting to see the age groups that smoke
21 year olds are our biggest bunch at the moment
Older ones seem to have given up
Younger ones don't seem to be taking it up which is good to see

Yep - smoking is big in nurses. Especially psychiatric nurses. Stress i assume.

i work in construction - it is still big on the sites. In my office i would say like 5%

Funny - they complain about fibro, pvc and fibreglass :alien

well i had smoked on and off from 13 to 18 then became a regular smoker
i gave up when i met my other half ryan because he hated it, this was 18 months ago and i missed it every single day, 2 weeks ago i had a really bad week and i gave in and bought a pack, finished that and things had settles down so i didnt buy another one.

but i tell you this if i wasnt with ryan i would smoke in a heart beat, i went cold turkey 18 months ago, found it was easy enough, but i still wish i was a smoker,

yes people say that smoking kills you blah blah blah, i work in a nursing home and i used to look after a lady in her 100's who was smoking till she was 100 and she only stopped because she forgot about them (dementia), she would be 103 now and still kicking.
i think that smoking may increase the risk of illness but it isnt a sure fire thing.

Well that is my 2 cents, i dont want people to have a go at me now about what i have said as it is just the way i feel and you may feel differently and thats fine by me.
