always a good idea to have 'wreck retention' in the contract... like Shannons

i feel your pain mate but its a lesson as well. i had the same thing happen to me last year but i had salvage rights and ended up pulling about 6g worth of parts out of the car and its now got a new body and will be back on the road in a little while.

NRMA are generally good with it - INCREDIBLY BLOODY SLOW!!! - but good.

I had a similar experience a while ago, and finally bought my 74L back off them for $500.

Try and speak to the asser. It helped me heaps - he wont tell you how much is the right amount be he will give an indication.

Just ring every 2nd day and ask nicely.

You should be fine

I wasn't even able to get the CD player out of my car when I totalled it. Damn insurance companies. Can't live with em and can't live without em!

Good luck !

I feel for ya change insurance companies. I had a bug written off 18 months ago insured with Suncorp Metway. I rang and asked if I could have it moved to a dealer near me/ they said no problems/ assesser rang asked me what do you think it is worth i TOLD HIM they paid NO questions.
I totally stripped it so got my money PLUS the expensive parts. Suncorp rules OK.

SO what, u saying that they can claim ur car and just sell it if u just ask to get it towed or if u ride it off?

If thats what u mean, What BULLSHIT!!! I would be spewing if they took my car, who are they to pinch an owners fricking automobile if some p plater hits ya.

If the car is a wreck or not, regardless it should still be yours i say.

but chris if they pay you out on the claim, they actually own the wreck legally unless you have salvage rights cause they have honoured the claim

Oh, so ur saying that if u ride it off, and u make a claim with the insurance company, the deal with this fella is that because its road off and u make a claim for a road off car, they replace the car (or give u the $$$ it is worth) to the value it was insured for and they take the wreckage off ur hands? (That is, for the beetle standard of that age and model, not with the green paint and sound system like the recent pimped standard beetle)

Hmm, gotta make sure i don't get caught in that situation. Probably take a good amount of time to make sure i have everything covered and understand all the possibilities of a future claim i might take before i ask for one.

Thats gotta suck though, sigh. I feel sorry for ya man.

That is of course, when the insurance company thinks its cheaper to replace the car rather than fix it, right?

.. still dont know what is happening with my green bug..
still in nrma hands.. but fortunatly i took my sound system and steering wheel out before they got there hands on it.. as none of that was on insurance.. replaced it with just stock wheel/ tape player.. but the only other big problem is that my bug had 16 by 9 wheels!!! on the back.. and only 14 by 5 on the front.. i think nrma will have some thing to say about that.. well i can only hope for the best.. i would love another beetle for the mean time.. to just run around in.. i have been with out a car.. and its like nearly snowing where i live... freezing my but off!!!
