I have a '73 beetle, and would like to know what the fuel tank capacity is. Also, when I fill it, I can see the fuel in the filler hose, and I assume its full. But when I check the gauge its only just around 3/4's full. Any thoughts?

Assuming its a L Bug, it would be 42 litres.

My 73 take 42 litres maybe your sender needs to be cleaned. Take it out of the tank undo the screw on the bottom and clean the runners and the section that go up and down. I did this on my fastie and it fixed the same trouble you are having.

ok, we were going to do this yesterday evening, until we realised it involved removing the fuel tank to get the sender out..... I guess that's a job for another day, when its actually light..lol!
