Just thought it was interesting that When I advertised my van here I only had 3 people interested in it.
It was advertised in Just Cars and I have had at least 25 calls about it, they are still calling today.
Just goes to show that there are a hell of a lot of people interested in Vw's that are not on this site.

As a side note: I'm trying to convince my cousin to consider adjusting the categories in the magazine so that vws are combined in another section and are easier to find. They are considering this as there are more and more dubs being advertised and sold each issue.

thats crazy - would have thought selling on here with the ability to put heaps of photos and stuff would be better - Just cars is like a black and white and only one, unless you fork out the $$ for colour
Well there are a bunch more people who look at Just cars than AVD. We have about 3000 members, about one third or so of that are active members. I don't know what the selling rate for Just Cars is but I know it's a heap more than 3000 copies per issue... The amount of extra coverage far outweighs less VW enthusiasts.
If I was buying or selling a VW I certainly would be looking in more places than just AVD.
And the price difference?

Alot more dreamers than buyers in here. But that's fair enough we can all dream. Not bagging just observing.......🙄

sorry but i dont think all dreamers. a lot on here are here cause they already have rides and projects, so for someone to sell, its alot harder. but still at the end of the day, i would think if its a good car then it will sell on here like anywhere else.

Wes, I think what he is on about is that you get lots of people who are dreamers, I had lots asking for more details and photos , but that was it they didnt reply afterwards, no comments or anything.All I am saying is we get a bit insular on here thinking that this site is the be all and end all of VW's, it isnt, there are more people interested in them that dont visit the site.

Yeah sorry I probably didn't word that quite right, Dave pretty much hit it on the head. People want the info the pics etc etc then just evaporate when the crunch time comes. Like I said not having a go just my experience.
Oh and I never said "all" were dreamers.
I do agree if it's good it'll sell sooner or later......
I've had my original as 72 Microbus in here for a few weeks, but no serious interest and not asking big money, people do say 'oh, wow I'd love that, I'll get back to you', but don't hold yer breath. Not sure what people want for 5k these days....but just look at the bargains on eBay these days....lol.
What happened with Murry's low light, that was steal at 7k. Maybe the trading post, drive, carpoint, justcars etc., have an audience that has deeper pockets than AVD, which is a good fun community, but not sure that stuff sells in here unless it's a fire-sale price.
ps, decided to keep the microbus, like I'm ever gonna get a better one at the price I've paid.....but if Murry's was for sale at the time, I'd have forked out the extra 2-3k for sure. But maybe I know what I'm looking at.....

I agree with you crewcabman. I guess it's also the fact that alot of us already have a shed full of cars.
Having said that I've just sold my bus on here inside a week. I've bought two cars on here now and a whole lotta carp I never really needed, but wanted anyway.
I love the place but agree it's probably not the best place if you really wanna sell and get a good price easily.
Just cars is free unless you want a bigger ad?
I think you'll find that the majority of the active members that are on here are 'enthusiasts' - and by that I mean that they already have a vw of one form or another, and use the site as a community source of information, tech help, spare parts, and just a good vw chin wag.
Lots of the people on here have acquired a project, and then found out about this site - thus arent in the market for another car.
Having said that, there are serious buyers on here too, and I've seen several times cars move from one member to another.
Additionally, I've seen real bargains (a certain 13B baja comes to mind) that just dont move on here........
Its weird allright, but if you are dinkum about wanting to sell, its all about exposure...... the more places you advertise, the more exposure, the more likely you will sell in your given time frame.
If I was selling, I'd definetely put it here though......
