I was just reading my latest vwma and noticed that ,as usual, there are no prices on any ads .this has been the case in every australian vw mag i have ever bought .
If you open up a vw mag from any other country ,like volks world or vw trends everythig has a price on it.
even if you compare "the garage shelf" to "on the scene" everything in volks world has a price on it.
I just want to know why assie vw parts companies are so scared to tell people how much things cost
Aus dollar fluctuates a hell of a lot.
Frequency of mag... who knows what happens in 3 months?
We're not scared. Advertising space costs a whole lotta$$$$ and we like to make our ads look good, not cluttered with prices. If you are really interested in something you would ring the said company yes?
We want to advertise our business in general not just a couple of products that may or may not sell.
Have another look in Volksworld. How many ads really have prices?
Not that many........😵💫
i just want to know how much stuff costs
and i'm sure a lot of other people do to.
If you really want it ASK!🤪
it's just hastle ringing around for prices .i'd like to be able to look in my vwma and find them . like i do with volks world.
p.s love your bus i wish i could affod to buy it .
Prices are often left off ads, as companies don't like inviting the competition to under cut them. The other reason people advertise without prices is to say 'look at me, I've got stuff like this' ... the main aim is to 'be there' so that you remember the company name and might be encouraged to call them about what you saw and other things.
It's not limited to mag ads, plenty of places have parts lists, but few have prices to go along side. This is due to the time it takes to keep a big list up to date, because they may get the item from more than one supplier and the price may change, or that they have prices for 'one off retail' which might be different to prices is say you we're having a car restored.
Some VW shops that 'restore' and 'service' often have parts that they really only want for customers, and so are not really a 'retail' shop as such, so don't feel the need to advertise single prices.
Online it's easier, but then the business has to invest cash in building a shopping cart system that works, and the hardest part of that is calculating the shipping at the point of sale to come up with a total. Then many people won't buy online, but want to browse - this again tips off the competition, and as any VW shop will tell you, competition for your buck is fierce.
Most VW shops world wide are mainly advertising to let you know that they exist, and to keep their name in your memory, not to sell one specific thing - it's too risky and expensive to focus on a few items that might only appeal to a limited audience. But then that's why advertising is a billion dollar business.
VW Australia, is probably, like many nice magazines, using ads to fund publication and distribution, and when you're not attracting major brands to put part of their big budget into it, then the small ads from small business are often just a promo with the odd item thrown in to attact attention. It's expensive for them, as most VW shops won't really have an annual budget just for advertising, and will be doing the hard yards themselves to design and make 'em too.
Be nice to 'em, give 'em a call - that's the only way it works for them and you!
Loves a lolcat
Fair enough I guess.
It's just never that easy I guess.
Ok if you're a big warehouse size business but being small we sell out of certain things which we replace with different things and when an ad runs for three months alot of it can become redundant.
Hell I wish you could afford it too LOL!!!
I find it hard to ring during business hours to get prices so I end up buying from a US company over the web.
If our suppliers here put pricing on their web pages or in their magazine ads, I would probably buy more from them.
So far I have restored a 68 beetle and an in the middle of doing a 72 beetle cabriolet to be followed by a 72 ghia vert. I am also on the lookout for a 23 window with semaphores should one ever show up.
This all adds up to a lot of money going OS because it is so much easier to buy from them.
