I'm in the UK looking to buy a Split when we come over to migrate... there dont seem to be that many for sale on the forums here, where is the bext place to be looking?
Tried TheSamba.com, a few on carpoint, but not many.... dont tell me they have ALL ended up here 🙁
Cheers for helping
S
you could buy this one.
It is destined to start a new life in the UK in September if not bought in Aus
now with safaris and rack

What condition and how much are you looking at spending.
Do you want to do a bit of work on it?
Pmgbus had some for sale at a reasonable price too.
E-mail me for his number
Cheers
I'm not really in a position to buy unti a few months, I was just wondering more in general where everyone gets there splits from in aus, cus i can't seem to find that many online (dont tell me they are all here godamit)
thanks for your comments so far though 😉 keep em coming
i was going to say something but it will give another avenue for the fense sitters overseas to pinch more, i guess when you arrive you will find out then, i suggest buying one from here and bring it home check link

I think most went to UK already 🙁
1959 red & white Beetle
1975 Kombi camper
You have more chance of finding one over there.
What i would do is spend the next few months looking for a good one in the UK and bring it over with you.
Still plenty here

check out
www.lowlight.com.au for low lights only..
I dont want a resto, I wanted a good usable campmobile that we didnt have to be too precious over... amd i being unrealistic?
I thought the whole importation thing would go on supply and demand... if the b*stards keep importing them over to the UK, then the prices in Aus will go up, and then less will get imported... yes?
Not all of the people in the UK agree with sucking the Aussie veedub scene dry 🙁
BTW, its very expensive to import them back to Aus (and remember the prices over here are outrageous)...
p.s. Bruce - post a pic of your 66 11-window, would be nice to see
If you add up the cost of coming over, finding a bus and getting it to where you are, this country is huge compared to the uk, so you need to add that into the cost, the time hassle, cost of shipping VAT and duty in the UK and then the cost of getting it to your door. OZ is not the best I would say and a weekend in Sunny swansea or even better the dam might not be that expensive an option, depends what side you want to drive on I guess. Otherwise the US has to be a better option, going by where all the dealers are getting there busses from.
There are not that many splits here really and even less if you are a god damn pomme ;-)
WANTED kombi drivers side rear corner for a early bay! found after six years lol
WANTED engine lid for early kombi 71
Best place to find cheap splits would probably be Kings Cross in Sydney....or so I hear.
Seriously though, shouldn't be too hard for you to find a decent runabout when you get here - like everywhere else Splitty prices have steadily risen over the past few years but there are still some around and good prices - just have to be patient.
There's heaps of bays, if you'd consider that sort of thing. I certainly enjoy every minute driving my lovely '74 down the road. And like you said, nothing to get too precious over.
(On a related note, I've seen a few posts on the Samba that are really divided (or divisive) between the bay/split 'camps'. I've not seen that here and am glad, it's so silly. I like to think people can be openminded enough to appreciate other ideas and stuff. Whoa, sorry, I'm losin' the plot hey? :duh )
:P Yeah, come over here and look, if we tell you where our big stash is, the dealers'll clear them out! ;-)
Cheers, Aurel.
Of course keep the stash secret (I only want one!) 😉
I have a bay at the moment and we love it... just wanted to 'trade up' to a splitty when we migrate.
We can always get a bay for our road-trip before settling down, just would have preffered doing it in a split
Any thoughts on the Bay vs Split thing for long road trips by the way? Whats' the general parts availability like for both?
Cheers for all your comments
if your just comming here for a trip you can import your bay as a temp import for up to 12 months to aus without paying any import duties and shipping would just cost around the 1200us$$ via ro-ro(around 600pounds each way??)u2u me if you want the shippers.........
