G,morning all. I am fitting out my micro as a hybrid camper. I want to remove the rear seat and build a new one with storage etc. Probably out of plywood. This of course will form part of the foam work bench. I plan on keeping the original seat belts, mounts etc. Can anyone tell me if this home made seat will cause me dramas when I go for a road worthy??????

Also while I am picking ya brains thrillseekers, can any one tell me what bucket seats adapt well to the front . Its a 1973 bus

warb gimme some butter im on a roll.....

yeah no real advice but won't you have to have it approved by transport etc if you want to use orig. seatbelts etc???
may be best to contact your main roads dept and ask what your states deal is..
hope that sheds a bit of light..

How do campervans get approved?? Ive looked at many conversions and some of the benches they put in them dont look all that strong!!
I would have thought that the most important bit is the seatbelts,.

Have a look on your rego papers for the seating capacity.A lot of campers on the rego are only 2 seaters but most have seats in the back. The rear seat is only for when you are parked or camping. In Queensland it is pretty strict if the department of transport pull you up as we dont have yearly roadworthys.

My kombi camper got a Victorian roadworthy before I bought it and it has a dodgy looking bed/rear seat with 2 lap seat belts. The compliance plate states that there can only be 2 occupants.

Mind you I'm suss about the roadworthy b/c the handbrake wouldn't hold on even a gentle slope (was great on the flat, though!).

aim pretty sure that seats that are installed have to aust standards sticker on them (well this was when i did my front seats), so assume that it wouldn't count. But then i know a few campers with wooden seats in the back with belts and have passengers, but don't know if it was legal etc.........
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

Check the Vicroads web site. Might find useful info at these links...

Basically, any seat which will legally carry passengers must be either original factory equipment or Engineer approved.

Cheers.
