Heres another to get the conversations going??

If someone fits an aftermarket case ,like an Autocraft ect, is it still called a VW.
Our club rules state that the vehicle must be powered by an engine produced by VW.
So going by the rules of the club any vehicle fitted with an aftermarket case could not be in our club.
So if one is fitted to a car can that car still enter show sections as best Vw , best pre 19?? vw.

Our club does not allow suburu motors in vehicles but cars with aftermarket cases are allowed, personally I cant see the differance as the aftermarket ones were not made by VW.
O.K. some might say they are the same as the ones made by VW but most have been modified so they can be bored out more ect.

Also where do you draw the line, if an engine is fitted with parts not origiinally fitted like cams, rockers, carbies ect, is that still classed as a VW.

Are they still classed as VW's??

Cheers

That does get one thinking! My new engine has a aluminium case, but it's max capacity is limited to 86x94mm just like standard T1 VW. AutoCraft, Pauter,Scat and alike are able to go way beyond 2,500cc.

Also the aluminium case that I have, takes all the VW tinware etc!

Does Brasil or Mexico still make the VW t1 magnesium cases anyway?

Depends on how tuff your clubs criteria is going to be!nn[ Edited on 2-7-2005 by Craig Paton ]

What sort of vw club is that? In the UK there where some clubs that would not let water cooled VWs join.Who cares as long as you have an interest in VWs.Years back I was in a Jeep 4x4 club.I was the only one with a jeep, the rest were landcruisers and patrols but they all had a love of jeeps. Get my drift?

The constitution of that club probably also says you must have a 4x2 up your arse!

I have a Friend I go 4x4 with sometimes, I have a Land Cruiser and he has a Land Rover.

He asked me if I wanted to join his 4x4 Club, witch is strange because he is in a Nissan Patrol Club.

Apparently it doesn't matter what make of 4x4 you have.

So it sounds like your VW Club has a attitude problem, I would tell them to " F " them selfs.

That sort Club should be shut down a VW is Vw no matter what engine you have or if its air cooled or water cooled. If you think about it all engines are aircooled because if you blocked the air from a water cooled car it will over heat.

"SO HE CAN JOIN THE CLUB"

I think if a Club wont let him join because he has a after market Case they should get over them selfs.

It's still a VW.

One of the reasons I am not a member of any VW club is because of thier stone-age mentality like 'no Subies' or 'No watercooleds'. I am also member of the HSV club and they are the same, unfortunatley.

All these clubs should have an outlook of 'All Welcome!"

Oh, and no, aftermarket is not a VW case... any more than a Weber is a VW carb

cheers,

if that's good enough for the rta than its good enough.:thumb

so how does one choose a number? wouldn't it open the possibility of duplicate engine nums?

I am afraid most of you have lost the point.
I was using the club as an example,
I am asking where do you draw the line if a vehicle is still a Vw or not.
If I use an Autocraft, Scat ect is that engine still a VW even though it might have NO parts that are actually made by VW.

Thata why I used the example regarding a vehicle in a show.

Can a vehicle with an engine that has NO VW parts in it still be entered in "best Daily Driven VW"
or" Best Pre 19?? VW" or whatever.
As they dont have an engine made by VW it is the same as fitting a Suburu motor, you wouldnt pick a Suby powered beetle as "Best Daily Driven VW" so how can a Scat or whatever be picked?

I would guess that only using authourised vw aftermarket parts suppliers/re-manufacturers would strictly qualify your car as a vw.. nah thats shit, If a family member has a heart transplant you dont cut them off the cristmas card list now do you?

So if a car is classed as the fastest Vw in the world or whatever and it has a glassfibre body, and an engine that has NO parts that were made by VW, it is still a Vw?????.

So I can fit a Big block V8 into a car that looks like a beetle and still call it a VW????

Just my thoughts.

Cheers

lol talk about extremes. Certainly got a convo happening!!! Aftermarket case is the same as aftermarket pistons, cams, rockers, valves, heads. What about using an aftermarket shift knob? Does that make the vw less of a vw? I think its just customizing, vw clubs should be about intrest, not what your driving! I think if some1 is intrested enough to find and join a vw club (and maybe even pay to join..duno how it works) then they should be welcome!!!

No, if those drastic changes were made I suppose it would then be deemed a custom racing car or just dangerous. Volkswagen is a lose term to describe a car that is most commonly recognised by its distinct bug like shape. So 9 out of 10 people(including the police who are chasing you)would probably consider what you are driving to be a vw.
