Hey all,

I have a 1968 bug and was just wondering how much it costs to have it rewired?

Do it yourself... what needs doing? I stripped a Superbeetle of its wiring and fusebox at the wreckers and used that to rewire my Oval

I got a rough quote for a similar job a few months back, the auto electrician guessed it would be at least a day in labour and started at $1200 (labour only). Depending on the number of fittings, etc, and how much he had to fiddle if he couldn't get a diagram, it would go higher.

I persevered with my problems and with help from these fine people on AVD, I eventually fixed my wiring issues. Luckily mine didn't need a complete rewire but most of the connections at the front were missing or wrong, so it took a lot of time....

you can do it yourself without too many issues. get a wiring diagram off the net. if you are realy unsure get a professional to do it but my ex had her superbug done (just the front not the engine bay, tail lights etc) and it wasnt cheap.

tassupervee, why don't you go and annoy someone else? Don't post in threads when you don't offer any input or feedback, thank you very much!!

To everyone else........

akean that's a great idea and I will definately have to invest in that vid 😀 And it's good to know it can be done relatively easily at home.

hi foxy, wiring shouldn't be too difficult in a beetle. Here's a wiring diagram from vintagebus.com
http://66.34.72.138/wiring/bug-68+69.jpg (didnt want to display it here it's too big)

you should have a go at doing it yourself! :bounce

Hi

The basic wiring on your car should be OK, they dont wear out, maybe catch fire. If your stock harness has been messed up buy one from a wreck fit that and use your old one to extend it if neded in factory colours. You buy kits from the US, Dasdubber has used on of these I see. Im going to adapt a Camira (got to be good for soemthing) fuse box to my car, Im not up to that point yet so Im only guessing its going to work out OK. If you treat your wiring like plumbing you cant go wrong, anything specail like relays follow what the factory did or what the relay manafacturer says.

Good reading http://www.clubvw.org.au/showing_your_colours.htm

We rewired our 68 beetle using the old harness. I took lots of photos of things before we took it all off and just followed the pictures to put it back together. After I did that, I just took it up to the auto electrician at the roundabout on Mt. Crosby Road and the Warrego Highway for them to double check everything was OK. also had a diagram to go with but it was from the USA and they are slightly different.

Wow lots of good info and thanx for those sites!! 👍 Once the beetle is back together I'll have to see if it needs rewiring and look at it as a future goal 😏
