This may have been asked/answered B4 but...
Can anyone catagorically tell me how a 2" narrow LP beam equipped lowered, bug handle?
I don't want any hypothisis about this question....Just the hard facts from someone who has actually done it and been for a drive...
How does it compare with a with a regular garden variety lowered LP Bug? Cross winds, tram tracking, twitchiness at speed, anything to worry about?nn[ Edited on 15-7-2005 by humpty ]
do a search as well for narrowed beam as there is some good discussion on it.
i know frenzix bought a 2 inch one from the states and he was happy with it.
a guy has a 2 inch BJ one in newcastle too and he is happy with it.
i think if done right they ride as good as stock.

One man's junk...
I have a 3in narrowed beam with adjusters, drop spindles and sway away sway bars and it handles great.
Just turning circle is a bit of an issue, keep scrubbing out the guards.

some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch
when you push them down the stairs
had a 2 inche narrowed beam with adjusters and no spindles and it drove nice just no good on big bumps or pot holes ,try wearing a kidney belt
jokes
no what do you want mate
if you want it low then you would have to expect it to be a little bumpy unless you use drop spindles but the turning circle is not to bad either
this is what mine was like
love mine
never go back
Theres a lot of what ifs to be asked
Are you going to lower it ? if so how much? what wheels are you going to use? are you using dropped spindals? what tires are you going to roll?
The best way I recon is to just try it, see if it cuts your cheese if not play with it somemore eg check wheel offsets , tires ,etc , worst case return back to standard with a spare beam.
Have fun

Ive run lowered LP bugs for years...I know how they handle and ride with 195/50-15 on 6" FUCHS. This time round im running BRM (MWS) 4.5 on the front without drop spindles....And it will be lower than my last car. The tires are 145/65-15 Contis...
But the reason behind my question was this...
I race my cars in classic rallys sometimes and also in autokanas and sprints....So the track width can effect the way things happen....I just wanted to get an idea of what to expect...
Its all academic really...I have the narrowed beam sitting in the shed (cheers to the Debasi'), I'll try it like this for a while, see how it goes then maybe look at drop spindles....
I've heard the stories, but nothing concrete....
Guess I 'll have to wait and see!!
narrrow track diminishes handling and road holding... ever seen a narrow tracked race car?! Noooo...
I can feel the difference in mine just playing with offsets...
Pay your debts, CxxT
I agree with VWCool
In a lowered, better tyred, stiffer suspension beetle Vs stock the "overall" effect is in favour of the modified one.
BUT
If you JUST narrowed the beam Vs a stock one. Which one do you think would handle better.???
Lowering is good
Wider tyres is good.
Stiffer suspension is good.
Narrowing track is bad.
Futue te ipsum!!!
there is a reason for narrowing.... its for slamming the shit out of your ride... so you can actually turn.. totally different things..
