after some carby problems and a few backfires a vibration developed in the motor and has gotten worse i have been told that the flywheel may have become unbalanced is this a possabilaty if so what would be the fix the engine is a 1600 never had anything done to it has an oil leak do i repair or bite the bullet and replace i would like some oppinions
thanks murray
is the oil leak onto the clutch plate?
has the engine been out of the car recently?
never? had anything done to it?
to many questions come to mind.......how does a flywheel become unbalanced? i guess if it was balanced with a pressure plate on it that was removed and put back on in a diferent position......i think there is more info needed?
apart from normal serviceing and tunes in the 3 years ive had it no other work has been done previous owner says engine has never had anything major done clutch seems to be fine
Perhaps a spark plug has stopped working, or a plug lead, etc... When my bus runs on two cylinders (due to lack of fuel on one side) she shakes around like crazy. This would be something very simple to fix, here's hoping hey?!
Cheers, Aurel.
I dont think a flywheel can become unbalanced if it was in the first place. Something may have happened to it or something.... It is most likely vibrating because of missfiring. When you run it can you hear clunking? I wouldnt be driving it, you may cause more trouble....
thanks people idle is smooth no missing or unusual noises i took the belt off the vibration disapeared cant find anything loose so may be time to take it to mechanics im going to look on the bright side it may be just the excuse to put in a 1642 thanks again for the input

your talking the fan belt arent you cause if the vibration goes away when its removed id be looking at your fan may have lost a blade and becoming unbalanced or it could be in the generator

it could also be a rock from the road in the fan too. It never ceases to amaze me where they manage to get into.

i wouldnt go ruunning your engine with the pulley off unless u would like a cooked engine rather than a vibrating one.
id check anything spinning on the generator shaft.

only ran the engine for a miute without the belt just to eliminate possabilitys as far as i can see the gen looks ok so the problems got to be in the fan would droping the motor out be the easiest way of getting to the fan have decided to have a go at fixing it myself so any advice would be apreciated

no if you undo the strap on the generator then undo the 4 bolts on the generator backing plate and the generator and fan should slid out
