I have just bought a sweet early dual cab in WA (Perth)..
Problem is that, even though it is a runner, it is not really driveable to SYD.. Any thoughts?.. I got one quote, but for $1200, I though id ask around..

Also (second question).. If I was to get it worked on (rust and body repairs) etc.. Can anyone recommend a suitable VW restoration type workshop over there? Really only interested in those that have a bit of VW passion in the veins though..

Thanksnn[ Edited on 18-7-05 by StenGuns ]

OK.. After some thought.. It would be just as convenient to have the repair work done in WA.. Any WA based AVD members that can recommend a shop to do this work..

repair/replace all sills and rusted sections etc

Thks

Stenguns

chatting to a few "other car" people i know of a few people who shipped their cars to Adelaide from Sydney to get them restored as the hourly rate is signicantly cheaper than Sydney.

Could be a blessing having it already in Perth

Yeah but in the decriminilsed state do you want pot heads painting all lazy-arsed on your ride....?

I suppose my angle is that the cost of Repair may be less than in SYD.. I have some experience in this and it has worked that way in the past.. In fact, at this time I have one DC being worked on in SE QLD and one that will soon start in ADL.. So why not give WA a go!.. I have a DC (work vehicle) in SYD that will be sent out of metro to have work as soon as I finish some of these other plans..

The WA opportunity was too good to pass up.. So one more is added to the collection.. Rather than leave them to rust eh? As long as I can stretch my budget!!

So.. Good quality and reasonably priced repairers in WA.. Put your hand up!
Rob

Thanks Ron (wacked1) I'll hang onto your number..

The Vee Dub Center in Osborne park does good quality work, they prob have the biggest shop in perth, but I have never had any work done there - so aren't familiar with their prices. Their number is (08) 9242 2808.

Sorry it turned out a bum steer..... I have to say I am suprised though.... I know for a fact there have been several full restos done through that workshop... I guess they must have been owned by the workshop people....

The Vee Dub Center in Osborne Park is very $$$$$$$. The reason they said no to your bus is because they are doing a big bad Baja project. If you go out the back of his workshop there is vw stuff far as the eye can see. Look, but dont touch!!!

Give Balcatta VW & Subaru Specialist ( John Scott) a ring and see if he can recommend any one. Nice Bloke.

Also StenGuns, you didnt buy the Bus from a bloke with heaps of vw's on his property and uses a section of a roller door as his front gate?nn[ Edited on 16/05/2005 by toecutter ]

Toecutter - that has been my experience with them too, I just try to be polite..... usually 🙂

You could also try giving Kurt a call at Vee Dub Repairs and Spares in Fremantle - they wont do any body work, but his shop is right next door to a panel beaters, and Kurt does great mechanical work (its where I get my beetle serviced). His number is phone (08) 9430 4180 fax (08) 9335 4452, 0419 937 054 or vdubrepairs@optusnet.com.au

good luck

I cant remember his name but I dealt with his son once and after I handed over the cash he asked me to join his local church group:jesus. Lucky, I run with the devil😁

Doug Sweetman.
I have a laugh when I go there as I know that Im going to get screwed. I call him the Smiling Assassin. He gives you a price, politely steps back and then smiles. Then the screwed over feeling appears. I know he is a businessman and is there to make $$$$$ but I want everything for nothing🙂😵‍💫:P

If you get stuck for vw specialist body shops, try Studebaker Smash Repairs on 08.94343224 (ask for Duane). They do top notch bodywork on classics and I think they even have a splitty in the workshop at the moment.
