Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.
What carby (or carbies) can this work with??
Weber 40IDF down draft?? how about twins??

😏 Gotta love a Buggy!!! 😏
Think it has to run on the single 31 solex. Could be wrong.
i just bought a judson super charger, just the charger not the kit, looking forward to using it, but i gotta find double crank pulleys and stuff now, cost me a grand for it

soon to be supercharged 🤘🤘
1970 and 72 Squarebacks 70 soon to be rotor powered
whats so special about a judson 36hp supercharger?, why would you choose one of these over something like the unit from the 4agze engines?, seems to cost about the same.

Coz a judson is the right sort of vintage performance for a vintage car. If you want more performance from your 36hp oval then this is the way to go
1954 Oval long term project going nowhere
1958 Beetle drag car project
1959 Beetle project I need to sell one day
1969 Squareback
For the purists 🙂
yeah, might pump your 36hp up to 40hp. I want one.
totally different application to the toyota blower. Judson... cool period accessory. Toyota... make power.

The 36 and 40 hp Judsons are to different housings and wont fit each engine because the offset on the bolt up pattern is different.
i love the 4agze chargers! but not as cool as the judson model!
stuipid beetle breaks everytime i drive it.....

You wouldnt put jap shit on a nice old skool 50,s engine.
Simple.

...and its a factory option so 100% legal!nn[ Edited on 25-7-2005 by 5PL1TDCS10N ]
a great way to make a crap motor a little bit more fragile
its probably easier to up the compression and some jetting
factory option WRONG !
since when is a 36hp crap and fragile? maybe slow but I ahve always been under the impression that they are bulletproof.
Chris.... kombi pilot, oval dreamer... finisher #26971 2005 city to surf
they probably are bulletproof.....straight off the production line in the 50's....but....after 50 years of use i would also say fragile comes to mind.

You can't use the 4age supercharger in pull thru configuration (reliably), but are are great for blow thru. Whether that be carb or efi...
I'd read about a 1776 that had a judson fitted on a car in the states, but I don't know any HP figures. I'd imagine it would run out of puff pretty quick, cause they weren't designed to flow that much air.
Also, from what I read there was a problem in that the oil the supercharger used to lubricate the vanes and housing would contaminate the air charge and effectively lower the octane rating of the incoming fuel, resulting in pinging, or having to retard the timing more than normally necessary for forced induction.
Oh, and i'd say the early model 36hp and 40hp engines (provided they are well maintained) are very bullet proof still today. My first vw engine (a 40hp 1192cc) dropped a valve once on the way to work. For $15 I replaced the head and scored a piston and barrel from a 36hp engine. Filed down the skirts so it would clear the crank on the down stroke, slapped it together and ran it for another 8000K's before I had my next engine built. I treated that engine like I hated it too, and it just kept on taking it! VW's are awesome!
well there's my 2 cents...
mmm a well known vw mechanic has told me stories of his 36hpway back when he was a teenager. Says it ran like a sewing machine and was indestructable, you just couldnt over rev it, flexible pushrods and all.

I wound my 56 of the clock ( down a hill ) with the judson fitted..... it was puring
I have to add my piece with that name I have chosen. Agree with Dave for a 50's design Judsons are great, easy to fit, maintain and overhaul. As with Dave I run ATF oil through the marvel mystery oiler = even though I have 4 cans of the real stuff.
I also have a Toyota blower on my shelf - this can be used as a pull through and or blow through. Problem is these rootes type blowers cant be repaired.
The Judson is a real crowd puller at the Perth VW shows!!!

The 36 hp would be bulletproof. Against 36hp of bullets that is. Low hp means not enough power to blow itself up very easily 🙂
yeaqh ive ben using the ATF since day 1 and it works great.
Dont let anyone tell you that you dont need a lubricant cause you can use teflon vanes this is bullshit and you must have some sort of lubrication.
holy shit, it just passed in at $1476US. How much did he want? Especially since it wasnt complete complete.. theres home made pulleys and brackets. Complete with dodgy bits maybe.
