Ok we get loads of emails at Bikersweb & plenty of pics of bikes for our Show Us Yours section but every now and then something just jumps out and grabs you and says "Hey look at me!". Now using a VW type engine in a bike is not new but this has to be one of the finest examples we've seen so far.
Tech Spec:
A displacement of 2316cc was the final power to this 550lb two-wheeled wonder. To start this 2316 engine off, European Motorworks of Hawthorne, CA provided the crankshaft, rods and the pistons and then Bud cut the case for rod clearance, checked the line bore and the cylinder spacers made for long 5.500 rods and long stroke. An 80mm forged counter weighted and balanced crankshaft with JE forged 96mm pistons and 4340 Eagle 5.500 rods.
A compression ratio of 9:1 with TRW Chevrolet rod bearings and a Type IV lightened 12lb flywheel. A Pauter camshaft with a duration of 284 grind and lift of 509. The type IV heads were ported and polished and cc'ed to 52 with stainless 48mm Manley intake and exhaust valves with a 3-angle valve job.
Bug Pack provided the dual Chevy style springs, Chevy chromalloy retainers, type IV valve covers with 1.48 rockers with 911 adjusters. Fat Performance provided the special mods to this engine with gold billet aluminium 0.250 long pushrod tubes over stock & 3/8 chromalloy pushrod's with a 0.35 wall. To provide the spark for this wonder is a Custom Motorcycle 32 AMP alternator. A custom engine pulley was made from heavy-duty steel rotor encapsulated magnesium and 009 distributor with Pertronix ignitor with a flame-thrower 40,000 volt coil. Rhino Case with 77 type I transmission gears inside. A Porsche type IV clutch and pressure plate activated by CNC slave cylinder with Weddle Engineering side covers and a PBS cap electric pushbutton solenoid.
Shifter was a custom-made foot shifter to put the power to the rear wheel through a sprocket system. The custom ring and pinion and gear ratios remain top secret. Dual Weber 44 IDFs with tall CB intake type IV chrome manifolds with a custom made linkage and topped off by K&N billet airfilters. 1¾" headers then topped it off with 4 x 36" long custom fishtail chrome pipes. The frame is made of chrome molley 1" and 1½" tubing. Custom made on a jig for all alignments and specifications with all welds invisible.
The bodywork is custom made with steel and fibreglass that features wide sport Arlen Ness front fenders with a custom made rear fender. To steer this beauty is a BDL custom handlebar controls by Dalton Design. Keeping the wheels on the ground, Bud made a custom rear axle with GMA billet front and rear brakes. A Fat Boy provided the front 16 x 5 wheel with Avon 130-90H-16 and Centerline Auto Drag 15 x 7 1/2 with Avon 230-60-15 in the rear.
