I use SoulSeek and find that its *fairly* good. Its got a lot of stuff, and its not just music.
Sometimes I haven't been able to find the stuff that I want, but most of the time, its good. Also, its completely spyware free (well, its advertised that way.... I've never downloaded a virus or spyware from it).

The other one that I used to use is BitTorrent, but I had some doubts about it and it uses a fair bit of bandwidth, but its also got a lot of files on it as well.

Happy downloading 😉🙂

bit torrent and other torrent programs are great for large files such as movies and programs(lrg ones) and if one has a good fast broadband connection.

Lime wire I think rocks alot. down load the free version form lime wire web site... and if you happen to find the pro version being shared then hey...

ALWAYS scan your down load though...esp anything ziped.

Bit Torrent is fantastic. I have downloaded several albums, i find it a lot easier doing it this way than looking for individual MP3's. Also at the tracker sites they are rated and people leave comments, so you don't get the fake spam files that the record companies have left like on the Kazaa network. Bit torrent is also very fast if the file you are downloading is popular.

The future of Kazaa is a bit hazy now as they are in a law suit with a few record companies. It might be harder to bring down BitTorrent as it is not controlled by any one group.

I use limewire. havent had too muchin the way of problems. The only thing that annoys me is you sometimes download a video file and when you go to play it you are sent off to get a licence, and it wants you to download some toolbar or some other obvious spy crap. I've also had a couple of viruses in zip files that have been picked up automatically by norton. I think I have it sussed though, anything that is approx 108K i stay right away from. If I search for keygen then half the results are just over 100k. there must be a lot of people who have these viruses sitting on their computers. crazy.

Might have to give bit torrent a go! Theres always 1 song on an album thats hard to find.

I use a mac and i dont have to worry about viruses, trojan horses etc.
I generally use limewire pro which i find is the best for macs.Aparently there is another program which is called Poisoned for mac which is gaining poularity and accesses all kinds of networks.I don't know if there is a windows version for this program.

mac user here. i practice many fileshare methods...
1)cabos: just like aquisition, but free. has not crashed on me at all, whereas aquisition crashed on me 3 times... all in all, a winner. it also doesnt use up as much memory as aquisition and far blitzes limewire in the memory department!
2)azureus: just like bittorrent, but a whole lot nicer! has all your settings and peer views and whatnot. it too is free.
3) dcc and xdcc on irc (ircle): one for us oldskoolers... still the best way to get obscure stuff and quite fast too.
4)cyberduck: an ftp client, another one for us oldskoolers... very much an obscure thing, doesnt get used too often unless im looking for a REALLY old album or whatnot.
in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Azureus is a bittorrent client. Havent heard of acquisition? whats the speed like? IRC is pretty oldscool 🙂
I find BT is good for obscure stuff if you can find the tracker sites.

I have been computing on a mac for 7 years and never had a virus: ie computer slowing down, weird mesages etc and absolutely NO TROJANS where people can infiltrate onto my computer and play havoc.
My wife got a windows laptop recently and she doesnt even bother going online anymore. After the first week of going online she noticed the computer slowing down and after scanning with different programs she had the dreaded WORM VIRUS as well as one TROJAN HORSE file.I dont want hassles so i stick to my mac.Very minute chance of getting virus.nn[ Edited on 3/8/2005 by latino11 ]

acqusition is similar to limewire and posioned but is a little more stable in my opinion
your right using a mac doesnt make you immune to viruses but most of them are designed to only work on pcs so we are less affected as a mac comunity

I remember using limewire a few years ago. It was ok, but it was still server based and used the gnutella/winMX network?? Is it still like that? Anyone remember the days of Napster... where you could find almost anything 😉

Yeah my point is that if all mac users think "i dont need to run any anti-virus or any firewalls because no one writes viruses for macs" that will only make macs extremely vulnerable - particularly as they have been gaining popularity in the last decade or so. I don't mean to sound harsh but if you go online without any kind of anti-virus and/or firewall (mac or PC) you have no one to blame but yourself if you get a virus/worm/trojan/spyware.

exactly why i run 2 firewalls 1 in my router and 1 on my laptop as well as a virus program. we are still able to get spyware but the majority of the viruses dont effect the mac os as they are exe files or similar but there has been a couple in the last few years that have targeted us.

Virus software.Sounds like a money pit to me.Every so often having to upgrade to cover for new WINDOWS viruses.Software companies such as Nortons must be making a killing.I wouldn't be surprised if they write the virusses themselves....... hehehenn[ Edited on 5/8/2005 by latino11 ]

Yeah actually i reckon they senstationalise a lot of viruses and security issues so people feel like it is doing something, but some people run pirate ones anyway 😉 Ditto with the firewall stuff.

I've never had any problems with viruses or any security threats on the internet before, i've always run a firewall and some kind of antivirus. it's just common sense
