Have just found the source of my "aroma of fuel" and I would like some advice on how to stop it.

It is running out where the fuel line goes through the rear "firewall". There is a metal fuel line with rubber/mesh fuel line either side of the "firewall". The leak of course is from the under side of the chasis, which of course is harder to access. (Murphy's Law) Will removing the rear wheel and jacking it up allow acess to this? I cant move it now to take it somewhere. Oh bother!!

What do I do??nn[ Edited on 5-8-2005 by bobupp ]nn[ Edited on 6-8-2005 by bobupp ]

sounds wrong.🤪 that tube the accelerator cable goes into towards the motor should run to nothing except the same cable comeing uot the motor side and hooking up to yopur carby. i could only guess there is afuel leak coming from the carby and driping down the cable?

pod i`ve got to finish this thing one day

i`m with akean ,and keep a fire extinguisher handy, and maybe tie wire your fuel hoses where they attach the carby and fuel filter to stop them popping out

As the fuel line went from the underbody and through the firewall, the hose clamp had "let go" and was letting fuel out!! Tightened the clamp and no more leak.

Yes the beetle has an extinguisher.

The rubber gromet which had the fuel line passing thru it wa s"shot" allowing the fuel lines a LOT of freedom to move around, essentially bumping the fuel line to the condition it got to. Changed said gromet!!
