cheers
rhys
it aint just cool its aircool'd
Hi Rhys
You can if you put on a later nose cone with the hole, Ive also seen a setup where a lever arangment was setup on the shift rod with a door light switch on it, when reverse was selected the switch hit the chassis and turned the light on.
Steve
oh ok so that is the only way in doing it? is it just a mater of changing nose cones or is there other stuff to be done aswell?
cheers

G'day Rhys,
Yeah pretty simple, just find a later nose off a Beetle or Type 3 box, some will have a plug screwed in so just unscrew and screw in a switch. Bay switch is same too.
If you look in the engine bay of later Bugs the wire is on rhs on firewall and Bays it is on lhs of engine bay, you'll find a wire with an inline fuse that fits to the hot wire on the coil, it goes to the rl switch and back to the reversing light.
Cheers, Ian.

yeah you need to do the wiring as well.
Its a very tight squeeze to try and fit the nose cone while the box is in the car... so better off doing it out on the ground
Rhys
There is a VDO switch that sits on your speedo cable. When the cable turns in reverse it flicks the switch. Not very easy to get hold of though.

Here is a pic:-

yeah i have one off the speedo type switches on my car and the main problem is after using this type you have to drive the car forward slightly to make the switch go off again. Or wire it through the igniton
ok guys thanks for this prolly will have the box out at some point so in the mean time will look for a nose cone! thanks for all you input guys!
