coming from drivers side engine, mite be exhaust leak, or burning degreaser on it somewhere, not sure, anyone got ideas?

Did you top up the oil and spill some where it could drip onto the exhaust? Did you squirt WD40 on anything that can get hot? Can you see with a feather/scrap of paper if there is an exhaust leak blowing out of a flange or weld?

Degreaser smells really weird when it gets hot...... especially the cheap crap you get from Red dot, which seems to work really well

A sudden "hot" smell from just one side could be due to the fresh air pipe/hose/tube coming adrift at the rear of the heat exchanger. It gets much hotter than normal, and any oil that's soaked in over the years (from the rocker covers above) starts to "cook". This happened recently on our Fastback, and sure enough, the flexible tubing had fallen away.
