has anyone else noticed the last 3 or 4 months
the prices of stuff being sold to the vw fraternity
has dropped dramatically, not all outlets have cotton
on to this but a lot have & rightly so as they will be
left behind as the resurgance of vw appreciation is
growing fast in this country & those that are restoring
are not going to pay more than double for certain things
at one outlet when its more than havle at another outlet,
plus theres a couple of newish outlets that are helping
to bring down the prices as well.
in one major city an item is $240 in another its $90 both
are from the same manufacturer, were vw lovers not idiots
& the expencive place sold me so called usa rubbers via brazil they cracked within 2 months, i never went back
& never will no matter what, i was deceived but since then i have spent a lot on my vw a lot, there loss forever.

I too have bought an expensive window rubber just to have it crack a couple of weeks later. I now just expect most things I buy from that place to be rubbish.
I haven't bought anything for ages, but I plan to soon, so I hope you're right and prices are dropping - some are ridiculous!

Competition is a good thing. Add to the fact that AVD and DSK is full of community advice, so people are more inclined to 'have a go', and the fact you can get just about anything at Bunnings or Supercheap for stuff all and eBay for the rest. Personally, I think will end up saving enough this year to fund another project next year.

But having said that, there's a lot to be sed for getting the experts in when it comes to safety and experience, I know I still like to get brakes done professionally, wheel alignment and lowering type stuff, but feel confident to tackle the 'drudge' work myself, so ultimately when I do go to my fave shop, I'm not penny pinching and moaning, as I've not got 'more' budget than I would have had previously ... if you get my drift.

Having been in the UK scene, I was amazed at some of the prices people wanted for such basic items like window rubbers and seals in AU 10 years ago, but I agree, they appear to be far less these days.

I take my hat off to people like Roy and Andy for setting up, it's never easy (been there, done that), but once the ball is rolling as it is now, it creates more interest and more confidence in the market (us), so giving them your support will pressure others to do the same. The old phrase, it was good while it lasted comes to mind.

Just as long as you do your homework, it should be all good, and as long as AVD, DSK and NZVWNUTS keeps rolling......

The web really helps with lowering prices, as it make it easier for buyers to compare prices from different sellers. Of course some sellers don't publish prices on the web because it's "too hard to maintain"... well if their prices were competitive I'm sure they would gain a lot of customers from publishing their low prices on the web. eBay also helps buyers guage what a good price is, and helps keep prices down by adding more competition.

Well said Martin, Prices should be shown at all times, prices don't fluctuate that much, I put prices up every time, also I find my prices very competitive, prices shown make sales, if someone sees a price and are happy with it they call you to buy, why waste your time calling some mob only to be told the price, which is most probably to high in the first place, I love competition, I chat with other mobs all the time, borrow/exchange parts etc, the way it should be!, thanks for the nice words CCC, much appreciated dude.

I agree Andy - If i dont see a price im generally not going to bother calling the seller, because 9 times out of 10 the price is inflated, thats why its not listed. I dont have time for that crap!
Also if i can compare 2 prices, i will still haggle and ring the higher priced mob and ask if they'll beat the other...My hard earned money is hard earned by someone else too! - if they dont want to play thats fine, if they dont have the room to move thats fine too - how your treated goes along way to securing return business, whether or not they are successful with an individual sale.

all that considered and said, I would still go to a higher priced mob (if it's not over the top) if they have better/existant customer service. A smile and friendly banter goes further than one thinks... It's not that hard to smile at someone who's effectively paying your way.

Thanks also CCC.
We have also found that prices have dropped in general, but also quality has dropped even quicker.

We sell Genuine VW window rubbers with vulcanised joins, for a bay kombi. You can get cheap South American stuff at two thirds of the price, which one should you go for?
Original tail gate seals that fit perfect as opposed to south american dodgy name seals that dont fit at a third of the price?

We guarantee that we will beat any price on a like for like basis where ever possible

We usually never publish prices, only specials. The reason is that prices do fluctuate.
If our supplier has something on special we pass it on to the customer. Exchange Rates? Custome charges? etc etc

If a customer calls we give the best price available at that time.
We had a customer call regarding an item normally costing $980, due to the fact we bought these on special, we gave the customer a price of $680, a saving of over 30%

Nobody knows more than me about getting fleeced, which is the whole point of setting up ClassicVW(pacific). When I did my split a mirror cost me $130, which snapped two weeks later. A better product I am selling at $32.
Replacement sill cost me $180, I am selling a better product at $48.

Call me old fashioned but I would rather talk to someone than sit at a computer comparing prices.
We are not here for the money we are here because of our love for VW's
The difference is we want your custom
We are nearing our first Anniversary as CVWP and there will be many more years ahead.

We have great plans in store for the not too distant future
Cheers

By the way the company's that fleeced me have moved on to other things, must have made enough out of me

I would also say in my opinion that you dont just buy from a place solely based on prices, its the whole experience.
Its the same with whatever you buy, whether its your groceries or a part for your VW.

^^^ What Roy said - customer loyalty should rate highly - just like in the ol' days... It helps everyone out in the community and pushes those who don't to change or crumble..

I give credit to Classicvw(pacific) always interacting with this forum....I dont buy vw parts anymore due to my racecar using racing parts also being stung by a particular shop.I just like to say if i was using vw parts deffently be buying from you blokes....I think you find why parts are coming down is because of bad business, these Vw shops know who they are and the good shops will benefit...Well done ClassicVw(pacific)JVLRacingnn[ Edited on 24/8/2005 by jvl054 ]
