finally got my rims painted and got some Nankangs 145/15's with 205/15 on the back. I had abit of trouble with one of my back rims so had to take it down to a welder to get sorted and on my way back one of my front "Atlas" portawalls started to come out so I cruised back to my tyre guy and he said that he wasn't sure the fronts would stay in, the backs were kool but the Nakang 145's don't hold the spat in as good as other tyres.......
....... :cry
so now I'm sort farked as the rims needed the white walls to break up the blue and I can't be stuffed repainting them two tone.
will have to save up for real ones I think...$$$$
bloody spewin as they looked good too.nn[ Edited on 29-8-2005 by robnjo ]
whatcha mean the tyres don't hold the spats in properly? the outter edge of the spat or the part where it meets the rim/tyre bead?
Which model Nankangs are your 145's?nn[ Edited on 29-8-2005 by oval TOFU ]

I've no idea what make my fake whitewalls are... but I know exactly what you mean about needing them to break up the rim colour, they make such a difference. Mine have also got extra chrome trim outside the hubcap, which looks awesome. Oh yeah, and chrome valve caps with the VW logo on :P

oval TOFU, the bead of the Atlas won't stay in the rim with the Nankangs aswell.🙁
get 'em whitewalled for about 40 each in West Sydney....lasted on my 61 for some years okay, just don't use abraisive liquid when cleaning.....

Have had the same with Nankang 135's. The flappers sit out from the sidewall which looks ordinary up close but ok from a distance. The tyre wants to spit them out, but I reckon you'll find that's not gunna happen 'cos there's a decent amount of the whitewall under the rim.
Sounds like the tyre bloke needs to spend more time on them to get them sitting square. Problem is they hate putting them on and it's hard to find someone who cares.
Persist 'cos you're not the first to have the problem and man they do look good.
after a drive up brizzy road one of the fronts came half out, as in the bead came out about 30cm around the rim...nn[ Edited on 29-8-2005 by robnjo ]

Yeh, I was going to say - your front's tread area was pretty rounded/ballooned when I inspected them on sunday - no wonder you have fun in carparks when it rains!

mine sit nice and flat but...
is it just on the skinnys or maybe the way my tyre guy put that one on?
I think I will have another go at it as they do look sweet
wsere can you get new 135/ 145 from??? ive tried a few of the tyre places in town and they were like wat the F*%K are 135's
My Atlas Flaps sit out on Michie 165's but have never had them look like coming out.
Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.
I had enormous problems when I last used flaps ( tyre ones ) I used them on a 1960 220S mercedes and the insert edge cut into the tyre side wall, which in turn made the outer edge of the insert go black. I couldn't clean the black staining off as it appeared to be like an oil that seeped through the entire insert. I then vowed never to use the rotten things again :vader
