I can't believe it - its only 10am and I'm giving up on today ... and I wouldn't normally even have woken up yet!

My day so far:

Wake up just before the Budgie passed wind, after just 4 hours sleep, so that I can help my wife drop her Pulsar off at the local Nissan dealer. It was booked in mid-last week to have all the coolant hoses replaced as most of them look suspect (coolant coloured 'crust' beginning to appear around the ends and all of them feel soft and spongy). We arrive and I have to park my car almost 1km from the dealership as there are no car parks close by - although I don't mind walking, my wife is due with our first child in the next couple of weeks, so she just isn't up to walking that far.

I finally make it to the dealership and my wife has just begun the 'booking-in' process...but there is no record of the car having been booked for the work required ... but they still reckon that they can 'fit us in'. We go inside to fill in the necessary paperwork and the bloke doing the book-in asks us 'did you order the parts?' WHAT? Did *I* order the 'insert expletive' parts? Wouldn't that be done when we booked it in? ...er...well...no...not necessarily... WTF? I suppose the fact that they forgot to book us in would have something to do with this. Shame that they couldn't admit that they stuffed up....

He then has a quick look on the computer and informs me that only the radiator hoses are in stock and the rest of the hoses will have to be ordered - some of them will have to come from Japan .... oh great - so how many months is this going to take?

He tells us that he will call once he has the parts to do the job and will organise a time to do it then... I hope that it doesn't need a new hose clamp or this job will take a week...geez - I hope he remembered to order the water to put back into the radiator....idiot.

So we leave the dealership (two black stripes out of the driveway) and head to McD's for Brekky - uneventful (the only thing so far today that has gone to plan).

After Breakfast we have to take one of our dogs back to the vets to have bandages removed after he had an operation to remove a large lump from his ear. The vet cuts the bandages off to reveal a wound that obviously had not yet healed (lots of blood from around the stitches). Hmmm, he says, see how you go...then the dog shakes his head vigorously...covering everything in the room with blood spatters (yes, me too)....vet says: hmmmm, that’s going to make a mess at home, hope you have somewhere to put him where this sort of mess isn't going to matter..... WTF?!? I suggest as politely as I could that perhaps he should re-bandage the ear for a couple more days and then we could try again....'that’s probably a better idea' replied the vet. Probably? Idiot.

He bandages up the ear again but it immediately pulls away when the dog shakes his head so I grab the bandages and re-do it myself whist he is off cleaning the blood spatters of his clothes 😀

Then, as we are attempting to make a booking to have the situation re-assessed next week I am informed that we have an outstanding bill for the antibiotics that they gave us on our last visit...then they charge us $57 for new bandages (having already charged us $530 for the operation – more than I make in a week!) .... didn't realise that you could get gold plated bandages. - idiots

I've had a gutfull of today - I'm not game enough to try to work on my Baja - something will stuff up. I think I will call in sick from work this evening and just go straight to bed .... I’ll try again tomorrow.

Hope you have had a better day!

it will all get so much easier when the Baby comes, you won't have to stay in bed till 10 for....oh....about 9 years......Maccas will cost you more (though they never eat it all) and the Pulsar will have to make way for an Urban Tractor with more 'boot space'..........at least the dog's gonna stay the same.

Good luck with baby....will all turn out good.

Yeah, i had a crap day like that, my PC was playing up and i was trying to complete an assignment the night before, while trying to finish it in time so i can prepare for the exam, again the night before too.

Punched the screen, cursed so much and dam just got so pissed.

But then i just walk away for 5 minutes and think about something else, like my melissa, i mean, well, yeah...
so anyways, Man, crap like that just happens. U get a big outburst of it and then it doesn't come back that bad for another couple of months.

I think to prevent damage to household items at my place in the future would be to get a boxing bag. best think to take stress out on. My knuckles were all pealed and cracked after punching the screen, STUPID INFERNAL MACHINE!

Hey Ross, whats going on???? You can build up a programmable FI setup for your baja, but you cant replace some coolant hoses on the pulsar? I reckon you deserve the sh*tty day for taking it to the Nissan Dealer in the first place.....LOL

Hi all,

Thanks for the words of encouragement! 😀

I ended up spending the rest of the day (until I had to go to work) sitting still, reading a VW mag - that way I couldn't break anything or hurt myself. I did decide to go to work.... broke the drivers door window winder mech in my company car on the way to work and couldn't wind the window up all night - ended up with a damp seat from a late evening shower...on the bright side, I don't have to pay to fix the window mech (the advantages of a company car!) 😀

Michelle is doing fine - only a couple of weeks to go!

I will be at Action Day on the weekend, however Michelle isn't coming. She will be resting at home.... might bring one of the dogs with me to keep me company... 🙂

As for replacing the hoses on the Pulsar myself - that was the plan, however when we were pricing the parts, the guy at the Nissan dealership mentioned that one of the hoses takes the guys at the dealership just on an hour to replace...thats just one hose! There is 12 hoses all up - and I hate replaceing old, crusty coolant hoses anyway, so I felt that it would be worth the hastle/expence if we just let the dealership do it for us. Nissan have this fantastic ability to build cars that would be easier to fix if you either remove the engine when you want to do anything, or rolled the car onto the roof (thats not so good for the paintwork :duh ). Just to replace the oil filter required you to have an extra joint in your arm, between your wrist and your elbow so that you can get around the power steering rack, sway bar, axels, hoses, brake lines, exhaust system and whatever else - then once you get the filter off the oil runs down your arm (you can only reach the filter from under the car - its on the firewall side of the engine, under the intake manifold). Lucky the stoopid thing is reliable and comfortable to drive or you just wouldn't own one! Anyone else glad that they drive an air cooled VW?

Now for my next challange - to remove the engine and gearbox from my twin cab...without unloading or moving it from it present location in my brothers garage (it has a beetle body shell on the tray, along with a stack of other parts for just about any kind of VW you can imagine) .... life is always interesting! Wish me luck!

Cheers for now.

ratty63 good to see you got through the day without too much damage to yourselve.
i was once told that japanese car manufacturers built there cars/vans
in a way that they wouldnt need a service for five years & there is one
van the name excapes me that the motor has to come out to change
the sparks, as most ppl might know in japan anything over five years will
not be registered hence the reason above & the flood of parts into aust
like motors & wheels.

Yeah, I did need a fair bit of luck...managed to get the gearbox out though...first we had to unbury (is that a word? :duh ) his '68 bug, which was parked behind my twin cab (filled with parts and misc items), then move it out of the way. Then we had to remove some of the misc VW parts that were on the back of my Ute so that we could get the rear dropside up far enough out of the way so that I could open the engine lid....this was not easy as Dave has the back half of the bodyshell of a '60's bug resting on the back of the ute .... the front half is hanging over the back of the ute (just above where the '68 bug is parked) and is suspended by a couple of ropes tied through the shell and attached to one of the support beams for his house. I jambed a couple of extra poles under the front of the shell and was very weary of any noises that came from above me...not recommended but there was no way I was going to lift that shell off the back of the Ute! Thankfully, when Dave put the engine back in my Kombi (whilst he was cleaning up), he didn't bolt anything in tight, so getting it out was a matter of just putting a jack under it, undoing a couple of finger tight bolts on the rear engine mount and pulling (the engine 😀). The gearbox was almost as easy, but the rattle gun had a fair amount of use. Then everything had to go back where it came from.... I wish I had taken a photo....

Took me most of the long weekend (Gold Coast Show holiday) to achieve, but this was mostly due to limited time (get up at 10am and start work at 3pm, work until 3am - so only about 2 - 3 hours work a day).

I just wonder how many weeks its going to take me to find enough time to clean and paint the gearbox so that its ready for fitting to the Baja..... 🙁

...I sound like I'm a whinger don't I? It's not really that bad (well not today anyway!)
