Spent the afternoon fitting a Crane Hi6 Ignition unit to the T3 Karmann today. Heres a few pics of how it came out. Its a kool looking unit. The motor runs and starts better. Havent had the chance to road test it yet tho. Dunno about the HP gains the talk about on the box, but will find out tomorrow I spose.
The main reason I wanted to fit this was to get the Multi Spark function and the electronic adjustable rev limter. These are a bit kinder than the rev limiting rotor I had fitted previously.

Decided to mount it on the rear fire wall to make a bit of a feature of the install. Was thinking about putting it under the back seat. But then thought naa!!!

Have done a lot to this motor since I got this car. New Stainless sheilded plug wires, replumbed and rewired and now added a full electronic ignition unit. Heres a few pics

Looks great!!! It will work better with the Fireball coil though...Have run these units on all my VW motors over the years..back to before they were called "Crane" (used to be called Allison). Nice looking motor as well.

Thanks Mick, next item on the shopping list is a Crane coil. Did you use the Canister type or the epoxy filled type? I prefer the look of the cannister type but they recomend the epoxy filled type with this unit.

The epoxy ones are the go..even though i've had 2 fail on me for some reason.I used an MSD blaster coil on the last engine and it "blasted" itself on me after 5 minutes of running. They admitted they had faults with them and replaced it no worries.Looks like i'm just unlucky with coils!! Go the epoxy...nn[ Edited on 3-9-2005 by Mick H ]nn[ Edited on 3-9-2005 by Mick H ]

Cheers Mick, I will go the epoxy way. Just not sure how I am going to mount it. Want to keep the cpil H/T lead as short as poss.

Spend your money wisely then and invest in some quality plug leads.
One name only, Magnecore race series.
These are wirewound supression leads. Suitable for any EFI with any ignition.
The last word in quality but you do pay well for them.
Place your coil wherever it needs to go then no matter how long the leads are.
