There are heaps of good used generators out there...
You could just bolt one in....
or take it to an auto electrician and get new bearings and brushes fitted and it will last as long as the original....
They doi last a LOOOOG Time....
best of luck

Hi lulu94.
a. $25 or so and up.
This option depends on how bad the damage is on the front plate. But buying a couple of bearings from an auto electrician and fixing them on yourself is surely the cheapest way, if that's all the fixinig requires.
b. $-of-your-luck
Get a cheap but good second hand generator and replace.
Some price I heard of for a reconditioned one at a local VW garage was $170 including fitting.
c. $300+(?)
Most expensive, but with this you can run high power stereo and bright H4 headlights, etc., if you like, and your battery is less likely to go flat on you.
Do you have a 36 mm wrench?
You need one to turn the fan retaining nut if you are going to do the job yourself.
Good luck (^^)/ Bungawatta
go the alternator, been there myself and it was money well spent. If you dont have the $$$ a good secondhand one then fix yours for a good spare.

Ryan here, I'm a mechanic, and my brother is an auto elec. 🙂 so fitting the parts, and repairing the thing is not an issue.
I also just realised I may be able to get a secondhand unit for next to nothing, and have it reco'd by the brother for about the same.
so unless my contact offers me a alternator for the same price as an old gen. fixing it is probably the go 🙂
the gen Danielle blew up was rated at 40A, how much is the alternator rated, and is it internal or external reg?
