Hi,
I have just finished insulating the engine bay of my 1963 beetle with fire and sound proof foam. But I just had a panicky thought- what it the car now overheats?! Is this likely?
Help!!!

Which bits of the engine bay did you insulate?
If your insulation is not intefering with the airflow there shouldn't be any problems. Remember that VW engine bays are airdams that rely on the air being relatively still. As long as the air still comes in through the lid slots and makes it to the fan there shouldn't be any problems.
If at first you don't succeed. Build, build again.

You must be careful to ensure that the insulation does not come away from the firewall and block the inlet to the cooling fan.

I have to make doubly sure that my heat/noise insulation has no chance of coming away from the firewall, otherwise, .............. bye bye engine. 👎

I was looking at putting the deadening back in my super recently as It did not have any in the engine bay at all when I got it. Could I use MDF ? or is there a lot of heat and a chance that tis would catch fire too easy?

The area above the tinware is the "cool" area, and below the tinware is the "hot" area.

So, I guess it shouldn't get too hot, afterall, VW put tar boards there in the first place.

I just got the foam from Supercheap. I'm going to take it off the fire wall now though, too risky with the fan right there. I also did the engine lid and sides, and it's wonderfully quiet!

i didn't worry too much about insulation on the fire wall (scared of it coming off) but put extra on the inside to deaden noise etc. works fine.. tho it might be a pain putting it in if u weren't replacing the carpet as i was at the time...
