After just redoing my 2L engine, fitting it and getting ready for rego, it appears that a small amount of oil is leaking from one of the push rod tubes.
I was talking to a vee dub mate the other day and he was saying that one of the advantages of a type 4 engine is that you can remove the tubes without removing the head.
is this true? and if so, how?
Cheers
James
Yes.Remove the rocker gear and pull the tube out.Replace the "O" ring seals on each end of the tube.It will "click"into place when you push it back in.Always instal the wire retainer to stop the tubes working their way out. Some people use silicon or permatex to ensure a proper seal. Just make sure everything is CLEAN when putting it all back together.

The tubes can be tricky to get out. Well - more just where do you grab the damn thing??
The best thing i found was a pair of reversed needle nose pliers. As in when you squeeze them they open outwards. They are knurled on the outside. Put then in past where the seal sits as you dont want to damage the tube.
Also clean the openings on the head and block. They get grunge build up there and stop the tube from sealing. Stick a clean finger in there. Should ne NO bumps or lumps.
Make sure there are no dings or nicks on the tubes. The tubes can be sharp and can cut the new ring if not pused in properly.
