I'm replacing a couple of CV joints in my Transporter. I have LOBRO ones (replacing Italian ones which have caused two rides home on the back of a tow truck after very poor lifetimes).
I realise I don't know whether there is a right and wrong way to put the new ones on the shaft. Do the three rings around the outer casing go with the boot or away from the boot? Or doesn;t it matter?

Any comments please?
Thanks
Dave

Umm,
if yours are like a beetles then there is a right and a wrong way. I am guessing that they are the same though. There are two things that I was watching when I did mine.
there is a larger diameter side on the largest/outer part of the CV joint. That has to be aligned the right way and second there should be champhered slines on the inner surface of the inner diameter hole.....
I will post to this again later when I get home and get my manual for this.
Sorry to be so vague, but I am at work without any books.

Go to www.type2.com and look at the article in their library. It explains how to get cvs on and off and everthing in between!
