i pulled up this morning back from a 35 minute drive from my girlfreinds place. when i walked around the rear of the car i noticed there was quite a bit of smoke coming from the rear drivers side drum out of the hole in the drum.

it smelt like clutch or brake....not really an oil smell...

any ideas?

kinda freaked me out, only the drivers side drum though not the passenger side.

sounds like that brake is dragging. Check the shoe adjustment and check the handbrake adjustment.

one of the springs could have escaped too.

that side handbrake cable too tight and handbrake slightly on. My bro once drove my beetle for a few ks before realising the handbrake was on. Took it off and couldn't believe how much harder it went...idiot! 🤓

BTW, it's not full of dirt and sand is it?nn[ Edited on 19-9-2005 by pete wood ]
